Worst Luck Ever.....

Had the car about 3 weeks now and hadn't got around to washing it at all. Plus, it hadn't been washed properly since import so this thing was pretty grubby.

So I spent about 4 hours on Saturday washing, polishing and sealing my car. Used the Autoglym range of products to get it looking pretty damn shiny. Mirror effect and everything (See pic). Was proud.

Took it out today to go to the mall with the missus. On the way back some jackface flicks a piece of sheet-metal off the road. It bounces off the car behind him before flicking into my lane hitting the front and bonnet. Put a metal-deep gouge in the paint about half the size of a 5cent piece, as well as a few other scrapes.

As soon as I got home I washed off the area and repolished and sealed it. Most of the scrapes are faint to the point you'd have to know they're there to see them. But obviously the gouge isn't so easily covered.

Any tips or advice as to how I can make this thing go away and get it back to nice'n'shiny?

when u said this guy flicked it off the road...it was alreayd there and they rode over it im assuming?

im not sure but isnt that considered his fault?

it was already there; it didn't fall from his vehicle. I'd slowed right down to about 50km/h but he would have hit it at about 70-80.

It was slightly bent, like about a 70 degree angle, so it was visible from a distance. And, cos of the shape I guess, the thing just took off when he went over, caught in his slipstream, etc.

I'm not fussed about who's to blame, nor do I care about the insurance since (I'm hoping) a pro repair would be less than my $500 excess. Also don't wanna lose my Rating 1 over a scratch.

I'm mainly worried that the scrape will rust over or cause the surrounding paint to lift.

      Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛

      Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it

      Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!

      Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
