Ofcourse the GTR Deserves the title...It's proved itself to higher named and Priced Cars Around that track...And though it might not be the quickest production car out there but for what it is it has the Name :rolleyes:

The "Nur" name for the R34 GT-R is more ascociated with the lightened pistons, rods, and "balanced" engine that are common with the Nurburgring 24hour GT-R race car, and the Super Taikyu Race car, than with the standard GT-R's laptime around the 'Ring.

I think Nissan was trying to pay tribute to the GT-R's connection with Nurburgring, rather than boast about a quick laptime.

Tacking on a rider to the whole Nurburgring lap record debate- according to the info i have at hand the current lap record at the Nordschleif (spelling) is 7:32.5s set by a 2001 Gemballa GTR600 (read: modified Porsche) driven by Wolfgang Kauffman.

However i have a feeling that this record may have been surpassed since then by another Porsche offshoot possibly the Gemballa GTR750 or RUF R Turbo.

True that's correct but hardly what you'd call a production car.

Back in 96 the 33 gtr was heralded as the best production car in the world by the International press. This was then backed up by the odd interesting lap time around the Nurburgring.

Still...big call in my opinion, but hey, I'll live with it...eh eh.

R34 held the title for a short while till the gt3 put it back in it's place. Not bad for something that's hardly mentioned around the word "supercar".

Still, a Porsche is a Porsche. I'll own one one day. Will sell right nut just to have one...... :confused: Maybe not! :(

The Nurbergring badge is, "in honour of the Skyline's success at the famous European circuit in the face of more powerful opposition".

That's from a press release when the car was released.

As for the record: It's held by a car called the Gemballa GTR EvoII (680kW, 700Nm, TT flat 6), then comes the RUF Turbo R, then the GT2. Noone's punted a genuine Ferrari/Lambo/etc round the old 'ring cause it's too freakin dangerous!

And yes, Gemballa and RUF are manufacturers like CSV and HSV are. They reengineer Porsches and stick their own compliance plate on them. Like BRABUS does with Mercs. Which leads me to an interesting shootout about to be published:

R34 GT-R N1 vs BRABUS E-V12 (fastest saloon on the planet at a speed-limited 340km/h). It's a twin-turbo 7L V12 in an E55 E-class body. If you're interested, BRABUS won. But the publication stated:

"The GT-R, bang for yer bucks, is the superior car here with more tuning potential. How we would've loved a fully tuned version from a fabled house like Garage Saurus or Autech."

It's going in a print publication. World scoop as there isn't meant to be any Brabus E-V12s in the country. Mag is released soon, can't say what mag as it would ruin the scoop...

I don't think the Nismo GT-RZ would be able to catch the Gemballa GTR round the old 'ring. It's the only car to make former world rally campion and Porsche test driver, Walter Rohl break into a sweat and claim that he was scared by the performance. Not just by how fast it went, but by how controllable and user-friendly it is.

    • Throwing my spoon to the soup here a bit.  When I installed a 044 back in 2012, along with the direct power mod, the car became very difficult to start. To a point I burned one starter motor as I was late for work and tried to get the thing going. With some tuning and careful use of gas pedal when cranking it became bearable. Trying to make this short as possible, but the 044 died after 2-3 years, after which I went with an AEM 320lph pump, which also died after about 4 years to my dismay. After that I went with a Nismo pump, and while trying diagnose an emissions problem, I noticed for the first time that my fuel pressure was 5bar/72psi on idle, and that removing the vacuum line did nothing. After monitoring the situation, and removing the direct power feed and going back to FPCM in attempts to remedy it, I noticed there was fuel in the pressure regulator vac line. Kept the FPCM, installed AEM external regu and the car became sooo much better in every way, including starting. And I had driven it like it was for 11 years.. Anyway, I agree these are likely two different problems, and the FP problem you just haven't noticed before. I do not know much about haltecs, but what first came to mind was the CAS, which probably is not there any more. So how is the wiring from haltec to gauge cluster? How is the battery voltage and alternator?
    • Your car was auto before? You have different diff ratio (auto vs manual i think? or n/a and turbo?)
    • +1 for getting a screen off alibaba, CarPlay/Android Auto is vastly better than whatever navigation cars had 10 years ago. I got an Android screen for my 2015 BMW, huge difference. Fully compatible with factory stuff including iDrive controls.
