Hi

The GTR steel wheel turbos are exactly that - basically a stock GTR turbo but fitted with steel / inconel exhaust wheels.

(I have the same turbos on my car - and actually prefer them over the -7's everybody seems to use....)

Hope this helps!

Cheers

I just found this table explaining the RR581's and all other GTR turbo's...

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tbroom/Turbos.htm

What can you tell us about the steel wheeled gtr turbo's, are they a high-flow R32/R33 BB core?

    • I don’t think it is ground. From factory it has 12v switched to one side of the ETS solenoid and the failsafe solenoid. Then the factory ets ecu has a pinout to send voltage to the otherside of the solenoids. I can see the ETS solenoid ranges from 0-3.3V to control the pressure to the transfer case.  Im just not sure what voltage goes to the failsafe.    I’m wanting to hardware these solenoids to avoid using the factory computer. I’ll link the factory R33 wiring here.
    • Oh, I wasn't expecting it to be available new. I was thinking to check whether it's shared across different Nissans. Amayama usually mentions if the part is used in other cars. Might be easier to find a wrecked Skyline, 350z or whatever if it is also used there. Have you talked to Jack Phillips JDM to see if they have anything? https://jpjdm.com/shop/index.php With them it's worth asking as they don't list everything they have.
    • Well....ground, obviously. A 12V solenoid only works when it has 12V on one terminal and the other side of the circuit (ie, ground) on the other terminal. They're just telling you to hotwire it. Of course, you should not do that without a fuse in the 12V supply. Protect the wire from the solenoid going short.
    • It's defo what happened. Not the exact same in each case. Remember, this is like the 8th time that BBS has been in "difficulties". Recaro, on the other hand.... we're only talking about the automotive aftermarket part of the company here. The business that makes aircraft seats, bus seats, military vehicle seats, etc etc, is not in trouble. I think the investment company is just being unemotional, purely profit/greed driven and culling BUs that are not making fat profit. The replica stuff won't be helping, because Recaro seats are unarguably too expensive to sell to anything other than a very small market segment.
    • Yeah that's what the cynic in me was thinking as well. Scooped up by investment vultures and driven into the ground to squeeze out the last bit of profit before discarding the company.
