yep, you're right there. i'm assuming that the idea with the after market BOVs is that they release 'quicker' than the stocker, so as not slowing the turbine down at all. But still the stocker is easily capable (ie will not bleed boost or leak) of up to about 18psi - well more than the stock turbo will ever be able to cope with anyway ;)

hey terry...wellcomen

my workshop manual is all ripped and solied and burried somewhere out the backyard by the dog..hehe. any chacnce u could send me a copy on cd once ur done. willng to pay for your troubles so u could make some money back on what u payed for it cause i dont have a spare $250 at the mo to replace my old one "thats burried somewhere out the back":):D

Dont bother with an aftermarket blow off valve. The stock one is fine. If all you want is the Psht noise you will get that as soon as you fit a pod filter.

Save the money you would've spent on some bad BOV and put it into improving the other things that are undoubtedly fixable on the car like the exhaust which must be stock since its under the new scheme.

sumo, doesnt the passenger door lock when you lock the drivers door with your key?

And welcome to the forums terry.m, donations for the forums via this thread:

In the end the choice is up to you as it is your car. Some say it's good and others bad. But who can really say but the driver? Well hope you make up you choice, I just like noise! So I'll be getting myself a HKS sequencial BOV! =)

I have a GoFastBits Mach 1 BOV and its been on since i bought the car a few weeks ago. My engine was stalling due to the valve inside the BOV not closing after releasing the air pressure.. This meant that the revs would continually drop down to about 300rpm unless I quickly put the accelerator in and helped keep my engine from stalling... I took out the BOV and realised something had been keeping the valve open and it was clogged...I fiddled with it a bit and since then things have been fine!!

I wouldnt be able to tell you whether stock or aftermarket BOV is better... Maybe it depends on which aftermarket one we talk about???

For those using the Blitz BOV or any other Adjustable BOV tighten the screw on the top down to 2 or 3 turns out.... that might help with the stalling saga....

only problem is that it will also affect the sound. I bought my Blitz BOV not realising that it's ment for releasing over 1 bar of Boost... (14.7 PSI) So here am i on Stock (7 PSI) and a BOV designed for Higher Boost Applications.

DOE!!!.... oh well it sounds ok ... and i have driven past many police ... the BOV doesn't get their attention.... it's the "SKYLINE" part and the similarity to the car in the "2 fast 2 Furious Movie".... cause we all are illegal street racer's...

Oh well.... not too worry.../end small rant.....

Look for a BOV that is better suited to lower boost applications... liek GFB or Turbosmart type 2.... etc etc.....

Enjoy your car..... i waited 3 months for mine.... that was hard.... but worth it...

Cheers

Lawrence

In my case I went from a Turbosmart BOV back to Factory BOV and noticed a difference for the worse.

There was a noticable drop in responsiveness, however blocking off the Factory BOV helped somewhat. The only downside with an aftermarket BOV for me was that it leaked a little causing a rough idle.

Most people wouldnt have even done the swap themself so they wouldnt know, they just say they are useless cause of the rice factor, but they can make a difference.

I have one of the older Blitz BOV's and notice a drop in response when i swap from the stock to the Blitz.

Im not running anymore than stock boost.....

I even screwed down the adjustment screw right down to get the *Flutter* noise and it still opened.

Someone suggested that the spring might be Stuffed ... so im going to buy a new one and see if that makes a difference

The stock blow off valve will to the job as well as any other blow-off valves as long as your running stock 7pound boost. The stock BOV is in the best possible position as it virtually on-top of the throttle body, most after market BOV"s are quite large and need to me mounted further down reducing their effetiveness.

But if all your after is the whoosh sound like sewid said, all you need to do is get a POD filter, as the stock BOV will blow air back into the air box and that muffles the sound. if you get a POD it won't be muffled and its loud enough for you to hear and others close by to hear, but not so loud as to attract every cop car within a 5km radius to your 'illegal modifcations'. And if your after the 'flutter' sound this can also be acheived through the stock bov. Just get a POD and pull the vacum hose out of the BOV. Make sure you block it off real good however, or you will stall.

Hey all, looking for the manual...

I just posted 4 links to sites with GTR manuals - FYI.

Lot of the UK forums have manuals online already...

About the BOV, if you get one, might want to get a plumb back version, as you will get much better fuel economy as well as reducing the chance of damage to your AFM.

Have fun...

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
