tyre review..what's the go for hard street use?

About to slap on some more black stuff, who's had good experieces and with what brands?

Please put price paid.

I'm thinking the Faulken GRB's are hard to beat for the price.

What about the Dunlop sp9000's?

Or the Bridgestone potenza's?

I'd recommend Michelin Preceda's. I fitted these recently and im very happy with them for the price paid (cheaper than other brands that were rated less by Wheels Magazine).

Dunlop FM901, about $1200 for 4, 235 and 255 17s. That was over a year ago and I've heard there's been a price increase since.

Great tyre for the road or trackdays.

anyone else got some ideas?

I'm going 18 x 35 x 265 in size so a good wearing tyre with ability to handle a bit of power before spinning up is what I'm after.

Short of the Dunlop Formula-R's what else could I go?

Don't feel like paying over 2K for tyres this week..(insert large cough here!!!)

Well as of about 5wks ago...

Michelin Pilot Preceda 225/50/16 = $235ea

Dunlop FM901 225/50/16 = $279ea

In the Wheels Magazine test the Michelins came first and the Dunlops were 4th or 5th.

That was enough info for me to make a decision.

I run the grbs/fk451s, they are great for the price.

And sure, dunlop D01Js the best, but hard to live with day to day.

Everyone has been saying the grb's are a bit noisy..

How have you found them duncan?

I find em great, not too noisy, cheap, decent grip for the price range, 1.57 round eastern creek, no sign of wearing out yet.

Ive got em in 265 and 235 on 18s, so yeah, they are a bit noisy, I think any tyre is in that profile.

An interesting point just discovered is the lack of 265 size in the Dunlop fm901's.

they only go to 245 in 18's... lame...

So they're out then.

So it's the grb's and the michelin pilot preceda...

yokohama A539's - relatively cheap and the performance is not bad. they came 1st in the wheels magazine test. i like them.

If you can find someone who stocks them you might want to look at the Kumho Ecsta MX tyre. I have 235/40 18's on the front of my 'line and they were a reasonable $360 each.

They are the best tyre I have used both on the road and the track and have excellent wet weather handling due to a fairly soft silica based compound.

Have only clocked up 5000kms so far but they appear to be wearing quite well (even after 250kms at track days).

Also liked Toyo Trampio F-08's but they are as rair as hen's teeth and only lasted 20,000kms. Did give them a flogging though.

Sebaz - i am needing new tyres soon too... I had Pirelli PZeros on the stocky rims, they were just under 400 a piece if i remember correctly and they were fantastic! however, with 265/35/18 needed now, they'll be slightly more pricey.. i'll get the Falken GRB's.

Hi all,

Well they're on the car! I went for the ZE-326 Falkens. NOT the fk-451's.

In a 265/35/18 they're all about 400-500 a tyre but i got a good price on the ZE-326.

Not the top performing of the range but acording to the guys at Owen tyres, plenty good enough for normal-hard street use.

So far they feel alright, a shit load quiter than the Formula-R's that's for sure. I noticed the difference in grip straight away from those baby's.

But for 260 a tyre fitted and balanced I'm not complaining one bit so far.

I've got slicks for the track anyway.

The R34 GTR rims look awesome, super stoked!!!

i got quoted for 475each tyre for pirelli pzero for 235/35/19 on the front and 500ea for 255/35/19 on da back

that was bout 3 months ago so now that im gettin rims shortly ill be lookin into it alot more and detailed
