Hi guys and girls,

I was just wondering if anyone has a Apexi Power FC in their cars and what the KNOCK LEVEL goes to.

For some reason i think my knock may be abit high!!

When it got tuned i told them just to do a SAFE tune, not looking for power just everyday drivability.

Its in a R34 GTR i know that if probably wouldnt matter what car it may be in.

But could you just let me know what car you have and what the knock level is

Thanks so much

Hey mate - Might get a better repsonce in the forced induction section!

What knock levels have you been recording mate and what sort of driving was it?

My car is just a 33gtst and normally on the road the highest I have had was around 60 because of bad fuel and a hot day. Normally see around 20 when I bring her out?

At the track though.....different story!

The knock sensor does and can pick up other noises which results in a high reading.

I did a supersprint at Bathurst and on my high boost tune/setting got 88 knock...but that was going 9/10th's (ripple strips, going quite hard so good chance it picked up other noises and stuff)

One point to remember is the frequency.

How often do you get the high knock reading?

Is it everytime you drive it?

Do you know what the tuner has set the knock warning at?

(Mine is at 60 and the engine light flashes)

Hope the helps mate,

Cheers!

Chris

Hey Chris

Thanks for your advice. Normally it sits about 20-30.

On a hot day it hit 45 that was the highest. But once it hit 64 cause it hit cut off!! and the engine light is set at 60

But tonight was about 30-38. I was told that 40-60 was pretty high.

So im just being cautious!!

Thanks once again

No drama's mate :P

With that reading - 30 - 38 was it evertime you drove the car - like drive car then 30-38. turn car off. turn back on and it would do that again?

If it reads constantly everytime you drive at that level, I'd be calling your tuner for a check up mate :)

Cheers!

    • Ha ha ha! I know those feels mate I've finally got the garage cleared enough that next weekend I'll do some actual work on my car (hopefully). Unfortunately garage isn't usable after 10am at the moment That said, I've done a lot of work this weekend on helping finalise a friend's Production Race car. Full started Christmas Eve. We're down to about 8 tasks on the list, including "get a wheel alignment". Sometimes it's just easier working on someone else's car or project than our own stuff 😛
    • Ha ha, ended up going it alone.  I just sent it (in a very nervous fashion).  Once I'd released the locks and it didn't automatically start spinning out of control i felt a bit more confident.   It made some loud sounds (cracking and creaking noises) when I first spun it which got the heart rate going again!  I couldn't bring myself to leave it tipped on the side.  I feel a bit more comfortable having back right side up while it sits there. I'd get angry with your last point but you're 100% correct! 😅 Even yesterday I managed to distract myself at numerous times to make a bracket to fit an LED flood light off the back of the house and fix my sons pushbike.  There were other little taks nibbling at my brain for the rest of the day too...
    • Probably one of the more nerve wracking experiences of my entire life! 😂😂 The balance (centre of gravity) is out still but in a direction that gives me comfort!   It's quite bottom heavy still meaning it takes a bit of muscle to rotate it.  The plus side of that is that it wants to to go back to upright.  Better that than wanting to go all stranded turtle on me!
    • hmmm that's not ideal. This is a pretty new engine right, will be interesting if your engine guy has any theories about causes
