Hi.

I'm planning to upgrade my ecu to a power FC..Because I still have the stock ceramic turbos

I intended to tune the powerFC at 12psi still.

Having said that, do you think getting a PFC is a worth while option as far as power gains

and fuel economy.??

I thought about upgrading the turbos first but was worried that it would run rich or not run at

an optimum level without a PFC.

AND I DONT HAVE THE BUDGET TO DO BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.....

Current modifications are: Apexi Pod filters, Nismo front pipes and catback exhaust.

cheers!

yep powerfc is a good cheap upgrade, you can buy the unit new for about $1000 or 2nd hand around $900 ish

even with the stock maps its better than the std ecu and you have far more control / options with the PFC

even just adding more ign timing and using better fuel and tuning you can get some great gains/response with spending lots on a full tune

The reason I was planning on getting the apexi power fc now is because I do intend on getting new turbos done

eventually and I guess the powerfc is like an investment for future mods...

The reason I wanted to keep it to 12psi is because i've heard bad stories on this forum about the ceramic turbos..

Or does anyone know if getting new turbos before an engine management system will be ok, as far as a/f mixtures and tune

In all honesty i'd save the cash.

The factory ECU is pretty good, get a set of cam gears put on... 12psi and it'll make 220-230rwkw and be pretty reasonable.

Mine is fine to drive around on with 1bar/GT-SS turbos on the factory ECU. Doesnt give me any grief.

Could be better obviously with a full tune even on that boost, but its not doing any harm

Better spending the cash and tune all at once.

Head down to Racepace mate, Ben knows how to get the stock ECU and cam gears going quite well in a factory style setup.

You won't get any gains worth the name out of an untuned Power FC. Your money is better spent on turbos and re-tuning the stock ECU.

im not sure about the base powerfc map for the gtr, but with the gtst there was a huge difference. Just plugging the brand new powerfc in my bros r33 gtst was a massive step up, it started smoking second gear when before it only just broke traction coming onto boost in first.

although id always put it on the dyno and give the tune a looksie

    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
    • Yeah kids certainly add a whole another dimension to your life.  Life ceases to be about you and more about them for a while!  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love watching them play sport and make new friends along the way. Wow, sounds like your mate is a good guy to know!!!  He's got some serious toys in the toy box!  Yes it would be lovely to be able to do stuff to your car without getting all tied up in boring shit like how to pay for it!!  I would describe my spending style as "aggressively spontaneous and logical but regrettable purchasing"....  That will hopefully make no sense at all which would be appropriate given that is how I buy stuff.  I'll decide at the drop of a hat that I'm buying something expensive, research the living shit out of it for 2 days straight then go out and buy it.  Then I'll have instant buyers remorse for 2 days which generally passes by the time it turns up on the front step!  If I'm feeling ballsy sometimes I'll tell my wife.  Other times it just makes its way silently passed the house and out the back to the shed, never to be spoken of again...
