Hi everyone,

Im not sure if this has been done before, so i hope for the best. There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding certain laws relating to our vehicles. Lets face it, Skylines, as with a lot of other cars, tend to stand out like dogs balls, especially to the boys in blue, and as such, people in 'hotted up cars' are associated with the media's portrayal of hoon behaviour and are subsequently targeted. With this in mind, Why don't we compile a glovebox manual with relevant sections of legislation to protect us and ensure we know what is expected of both us as well as the police. The glovebox manual could have information concerning our rights as well as our responsibilities. The manual could prevent some police heavy handedness, and as such could benefit the greater car enthiusiast community.

Your input as to what laws/legislation/statutes etc should be included would be greatly apprecieted.

The regulatory requirements differ from state to state, so you'd have to make them specific to the region.

One that should be there is "light vehicle modifications". In NSW, I am specifically referring to VSI 06 and 09 (for light mods and replacement wheels/tyres respectively), which define what light mods do and don't require an engineer's certificate.

What people, and the cops, generally don't know is that in NSW there's no law governing changing the diameter of the wheel. There's only laws governing the width and track (i.e. offset), and the diameter of the [/i]tyre[/i].

I checked Qld's rules once, and they don't even have the width rule. Their regulations only limit the change in track.

Since people report that cops erroneously defect this a lot, its worth having.

Great idea. I'd be willing to help out compiling a Victorian one. Does anyone know anything about online resources for this kind of thing?

VicRoads should have a web site.

1. Get people to suggest what they think should be there

2. Look it up on VicRoads

3. Print out the PDF files as-is (so there's no accusations of editing), along with the URL of said file

4. If you want to "add value", highlight the pertinent bits

Fantastic. At this point, I wanted to compile a handbook for Victoria. It could have information such as:

1) Legal ride heights

2) Light vehicle modification (as scathing has mentioned) Im thinking this could include things that we most commonly get defected for

-Pod filters

-Intecoolers

-Exhausts

-Numberplate position etc etc etc....(Please add more to the list)

3) Your rights if police ask to search your car

any more please add them to the list and lets get this handbook complied.

How low you can go before loosing your exhaust at Maccas? You can get into maccas? There's your first mistake, need to be lower, that way you cant enter

I already do this, but its great your doing it as a book..

Every mod I print the laws regarding it and hand it to the cops if they need it.. never had to do it tho

Id think a good idea would be to include the way to measure things.. I.e Ride height is Car with 5 people inside, 20kg of luggage a full tank and on level ground. Lets see them simulate that.

cops dont care about your ride height with passengers, i was defected in an stock 200sx s15 a few years ago with 4 people in the car and full tank of fuel.

i tried to go to court and fight it/ argue with cop but to no avail... i paid the 450ish fine and got the roadworthy without a single modification.

most people get caught with this one. it must be 100mm or higher with a fully loaded car.

Fully loaded as in all seats occupied....ie if your car is a 4 seater, then with 4...if it seats 5 then 5 etc etc.
