Hey guys just wondering , what would suit my options as i have a series II r33 1996 with a turboback exhaust and a pod filter... I was thinking of just geting a basic turbo smart manual boost controller... or a electronic one since i use to have a Profec B spec II which i sold but i might buy it back?... Just wondering.. before i purchase the manual turbo smart one..

get a turbo tech boost tee from ebay

much better then the turbosmart manual controllers, and holds boost all the way, no spikes - and much much cheaper

theres a thread around about this which is over 50pages long lol

i went from a turbosmart to a turbotech manual boost controller.

the turbo smart was not smooth, it spiked, lost boost etc.

the turbotech is very linear in delivery, smooth up to 10psi then holds all the way on my stock turbo

i couldnt recomend it more for the $30 or $40 it costs.

Hmmm. I was also contemplating doing this.

I got told to go old school boost controller like AVCR or Profec A. As they are simple, and easy and do not spike.

I have heard MIXED things from these boost tee's, that they all spike etc. But then the next person tells me they are great?

Hmmmm.

The simple ones are the ones your going to have issues with

The Blitz dual SBC is one of the best due to dual solenoid

Profec A, AVCR etc are single solenoid

Obviously i think then blitz is more expensive to boot.

I wouldnt use the AVCR personally, turbotech or blitz

i am contemplating on getting a turbotech one apparently they are really really good from what i have read/found out......its only going to be in there till i get my profec b spec II in...

I used a turbotech up until yesterday, have now gone to an AVCR

Turbotech was awesome, didn't spike and held boost awesome - I got it holding 8psi awesome and up 14 - 15psi with no issues

i have used both kinds of boost controllers and in my opinion i would never go back to those manual boost controllers. i currently have the profec b spec ii and i have never looked back (this is after trying out the turbotech, turbo smart dual stage manual boost controller, hks evc 5 AND the avcr). although i would always recommend the hks but for the price and the basic functions that i needed i went with the greddy profect b spec ii. manual and electronic have their pros and cons but what i like about electonic is that i can see how the boost responds to my driving and adjust it accordingly. another bonus is that with the electronic boost controllers you can set up 2 or more maps (depending on the boost controller) to suit your everyday driving needs.

i just like the complete control i have over my boost levels usings ebc's. i have never had spiking problems with any ebc i have installed but im so used to tuning these now finding the right settings gets easier every time.

with the manuals, i could never fine tune it properly and would get spikes here and there or even dips mainly because i can not ask the boost controller to increase my cycles at that particular point to keep the boost steady all the way through your gears. the higher the boost amount, the harder it was for me to keep the boost steady.

but im rather biased that the ebc is the only way to go even if you are looking for one extra pound (which i am currently running i.e 11psi).

depends on how far you want to modify your car - performance wise. i guess the manuals are ok if you are not looking for major boost increases but if you are then for sure get yourself an ebc. but as i have stated before - i am quite biased that the ebc's are the way to go for any purpose!

I've curently got an AVCR and had a turbotech bleed valve. Also had the TTBV on my old Mazda.

The AVCR is overly complicated, the turbotech held boost just as well as the AVCR does.

The AVCR was really shitting me for a while there, almost went back to the TTBV.

I had a turbotech in my car and it held boost great but my tuner really likes the AVCR so suggest I use one

They use it in all there drag cars and love them

Also has the option to set different boost levels and set boost at various RPM

EDIT: I think guilt_toy was using a turbotech on his R33 and making 300rwkw + with no problems!

Yeah it has heaps of settings... But for me, all I want a boost controller to do is get my car too x PSI as quickly as possible and hold it there.

I don't even use any of the features on the AVCR - if I had traction issues I would probably go about setting boost by RPM. If you've got 225s on the rear and 300KW it'd probably be fairly useful :(

    • I replaced the whole clutch line with the chase bays braided hose, I think it removes that loop, is it the short hose that comes immediately off the slave or is there a drawing in the manual to find what you’re referring to? It was just re-bled when I upgraded to the nismo slave, old slave worked fine but I thought that might help, didn’t change a thing. It’s like the first half of the pedal is pushing air and then when it finally actuates the master the friction zone is tiny. Makes it practically impossible to launch the car
    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
