yeah vmware is pretty cool - it was going to clear up heaps of shit for us

two blades, seperate ESX cluster manager 1RU server and its all good

we had the vmware blades booting off our EMC array too, so the boxes couldnt fail/disappear under any circumstances

we tested vmotion failover and its about 30ms between cluster changover, very fast and realtime, most applications dont even realise

I like this part. Currently doing a full virtualisation at work and having to answer a lot of questions to an IT Manager who really has no idea and has hired an army of consultants. I keep frying him on technical questions in regards to the above which he really should have an overall understanding of. Will keep you in mind if we manage to flick him (keeps threatening to walk anyway so might not be long). Have done IT Manager so not desperate to do it again, happy doing Systems re-engineering and processes currently.

Good luck mate ;)

for those interested or at least wondering

to apply for ASIO/AFP

After that list it gets even more strict as you progress through the interviews/get close to the final stages.

On another note, would you be interested in a recommendation for Oakton (IT consulting)?

I've had a look over your resume, its impressive but Oakton is a purely software based company, so I'm not sure if you will be challenged here or not, there are management positions around....I'm not sure if they're hiring for them right now.

We're a bit over 1000 people now so I can forward your resume if your interested, just PM me.

you work near me!

wow paul, no offense... but thats a massive resume

i would suggest sizing it down a little, as recruitment agencies and human resource people get bored very easily these days and have a short attention span..

i'm not saying your resume is crap, infact its quite good.. and your skills and abilities are fantastic from what i can see... but just be careful, if your resume/cover letter is too long winded and doesnt grab them straight away, they can just stop reading it and go onto the next resume!

While there is no right or wrong resume, that one is a good size for mid level management roles (which I suspect he is leaning towards). Chasing level 1 helpdesk roles wouldnt require that much but in a day and age where plenty of people are skilled, defining the specifics makes or breaks to interview stage. I have friends who are CTO's and CIO's who have 12-14 page resumes which are commanded by employers at that level for 200K+ roles.

Definately no issue with the size though for that type of role and Paul's experience.

If it is a bit of feedback session though, there isnt anything personal on there which can sell a lot and help fit you with an organisation's culture. E.g your role on the committee shows dedication, teamwork, responsibility, organisation etc.

I always take my DOB off too, gets a lot more attention much to my surprise.

Email addresses for your references (is IT after all)

I assume you still have your dodo email address as they are your ISP even though you left their employment

Technically, it is a very good and clear resume :)

I have a 3-4 page resume, thats before I had much experience and I this was highly recommended by anyone I had it reviewed by....adding voluntary work on the resume can take up a lot of space.

thanks for the feedback, going to make some changes today

and ill include some of the extra stuff mentioned - thanks

hey paul

I had a look an overall the lengh is about spot on. My CV is about 8 pages long and to be frank I never have trouble with getting an interview.

Formatting and presentation needs work, I look at 10 IT&T CVs per week in my current role and for example (to establish some credability) I hire system/solution architects, technical specialists and a range of consultants for my own program of work - this will just blend in with most of them..the border needs to go and dont be afraid to use some color.

I would spend some time re-working the Career objective into something more than the standard "I want to use my skills" as thats old and boring, again nothing that stands out. These days I will focus on this particular question and ask specific questions about it including why a person may be intrested in a position. I'm looking for some thought, not just a seek.com attach and apply approach.

Overall the detail within the roles looks great however I would keep a template of each role and stick to it, i.e. use the same format for the subsequent roles. You will be suprised how much attention old roles can get. I'm still aksed about my first job working on the CityLink Tunnels back in the days.

In addiiton I would include some intrests, great spot to bring up some of the points Saff mentioned as they can go down ok, however as you get old they mean little and it mearly background to differentiate a candidate.

Finally, the cover letter. Create a template and use one, make sure you custimise this for all positions you apply for and use much of the words used in the add to ensure that if any scripting tools are being used (almost all the time) you will be highlighted. The Cover letter just gives you that extra chance and looks both more professional and indicates effort.

When you get to interviews...thats where you need to pay me for advice  however given your personality you would be fine.

Good luck, PM if you want any additional or specific advice.

Chris.

Paul,

Have a loook at www.talent2.com . That's my employer. They say they don't have any opportunities internally right now, but they are also a placement firm, so check out what they have.

    • Update time!  The JZX110 had some maintenance needing to be done, so a lot of the seals with replaced to fix some oil leaks. Also used this opportunity to whack on a front mount that I'd bought some time ago.  I also finally got the rear lip painted and fitted.  I then got the exhaust done. It's just a catback for now. Custom made 3" stainless with a turn down. I could have a tip coming out, but it will require cutting the rear lip and possibly the bumper itself. So far I do like and it's made the car a little more zippy.  Close out with some nice pictures of the cars and a sneak peek of what's next.

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365. Scan of a magazine with the black R33 from 1996: Wayback machine archived page from May, 2000: https://web.archive.org/web/20000529061027/http://www.emotion-r.co.jp/skyline.html Option magazine with a few photos from the Cockpit Tatebayashi booth at the Auto Salon from various years: 2002: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=154&image_id=3507 2003: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=137&image_id=3033 2005: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=116&image_id=1831 In 2008 Cusco website mentions that the Cockpit Tatebayashi ECR33 was displayed at that year's Tokyo Auto Salon: https://www.cusco.co.jp/event/2008/12/post_735.html As of 2021 it appears that the ECR33 demo car ended up being exported to Florida, USA: https://rmcmiami.com/inventory/1996-nissan-skyline-r33-cockpit-tatebayashi-demo-car-big-te06-turbo-endless-brakes-lsd-450hp/ And finally here's Google streetview of the Emorion R garage in 2023 which is amazingly not only still there, but the showroom is still full of various parts in stock and funishings, etc.: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ttyEAZdZLyzermyT9 Apologies for nerding out a bit.
