truck, or mystery box... which would you choose?

Recommended Posts

just a curious post seing as someone who had a shot at me about my sentiments in the kangeroo thread has posted in here too...

would you do the same if it was a cat on the road instead of a box.... exact same situation (and it does happen, traffic stops suddenly cause someone cant keep their dog or pet in their yard)

ive been told not to swerve, i think braking is ok if you look in rear view mirrior, if it was a cat or dog or whatever, i would like to think i would do the same thing

paragon - no i didnt mean the box came from the van, i mean it slid from infront of it, so i couldnt see it until late

SO FOR EXAMPLE. There was a 5 car smash up. every car would pay for the damages THEY HIT UP THE BUM??? I thought they weigh up the facts to see whose fault it was and then whoever was deem the cause of the accident would pay for ALL THE DAMAGES. Wouldnt that be more sensible and logical???

If its the case where if u hit the bum of someone u pay. SHOULDNT EVERYONE JAM THE BRAKES and just get ram up the arse if such a situation should arise - so the only damage done to the car is in the rear WHICH THE PERSON WHO RAm up our ass have to pay the damages

im not sure what your saying boostimports...

basically i was tought that its your fault if you hit someone from behind, its up to you to leave enough room for 'what if' situations...

however i can see your point if the car that hits you was going at highspeed and you could proove you left a good 2 meters etc...

chaos - the way i have always been taugth is, and im sure many other have, is dont risk it.... if you swerve at 100km to miss a possum on the road, chance is u will lose control... now, saying this, my parents have lived 1 hour out of the city so its fairly country here, with lots of trees and animals.... and i know a few .. drunk ... people that have swerved to miss an animal, and ended up in the paddock on the side of the road.

boost - its a generic rule that if you hit someone in the back, its your fault. In a case of a pile up.. im not fully aware of fault, but i have heard that if u were hit in the back, and u hit the car in front.. it all depends on if u were stationary or not. If you were stationary, the guy who hit u pay for all... if u were rolling still, then your responsible for the car in front of you.

also, had heaps of freidns ram ppl up the arse, 90% of the time the person in front has braked hard for some stupid reason, but they have all had to pay.

yes but if u read my post it said "if you can"

obviously if on a highway you would hit it because theres concrete walls etc that you could hit.

So you would rather hit an animal weather it be a possum or a kangaroo or watever than saving your car and try to avoid it.

yeh you would hit it if you had cars, walls or trees but paddocks or even a run off space on the road you wouldnt take it

Depends on the situation. Sometimes I would swerve, sometimes I wouldnt. Instinctively I go to swerve, I grew up riding motorbikes. Hitting something is never a good option, unless its top speed.

Comes down to judgement and experience and ability to control your car.

If you hit someone in the butt , its your fault. You shoud have been further back, full stop.

I just wanted to clear up what happens in cases of pile ups (if you want to call it that) because I've been involved in one. In was stopped at a road works site, when we started to move again (very slowly) the VK that was stopped behind me proceeded to floor it and ram me, which sent me and my Camry into the bcak of a F100, absolutely twisted the Camry and little damage to either of the other cars. The entire fault of the accident was that of the VK's, even though she had no insurance. Hope I've helped to clear something up for someone.

Lookin @ rear view mirrors is ok, providing u got enuf time within seconds to look, find an escape route, made decision to take it or stay in ur lane.

I always check my mirrors from time-to-time, pretty often, even when driving straight with less traffic on freeway. that way in case shit happens, if i just had a look at the mirrors 1 or 2 seconds ago, I had an "image" in my mind where to run to or if I have to stay in my lane. Learned that from advance driving course.

But then, if you really don't have an escape route, then all you can do is brake and pray that it all ends with a happy ending. what else can you do?

    • He obviously had his reason for flipping you off. I wonder what it was...
    • Thats why I stay far, far away from Eastwood. only go there if I wanna eat Korean food
    • I have to agree like, yesterday, I was driving down the warringah freeway towards the bridge when this jackass driving a beaten up Honda civic cut me off so suddenly it made me almost yank the wheel to avoid him hitting my car. Honestly and he had the NERVE to flip me off (or some other gesture Idk). Im a calm guy, but really some people just dont deserve to have a license, let alone be allowed to drive on densely populated roads/highways. If youre gonna cut through lanes at least use the damn turn signal
    • HPA do an interesting video on tuning, and Adrian shows on the dyno, moving from 10:1 to 12:1 (And I think even 13:1) and the power moves SFA. However, a couple of degrees of timing has a HUGE impact. Exhaust side of things will more be the length of the exhaust and how many bends and turns you have. The straighter you can keep it, the better. By a lot. Oh, and getting the diameter right. Bigger isn't always better. Going to big can actually lose you power.
    • I have to say, most people I see on the road fit the bill of atrocious drivers. Whether they be cowboys in their dual cabs, bogans in the Commodores, or the soccer mums. Pretty much most people on the road put zero freaking thought into driving. Barely look further up the road then the end of their bonnet, and have never even thought about how catastrophically wrong shit can go, by doing what they all deem as normal driving. Especially their late braking, racing to stopped lights, and sitting half a foot off the bumper of the car in front at 110km/h. Wanna know what's even better? By the time their kids get to be old enough to learn to drive, they've already got in the back of their brain what is normal driving, how annoyed you're allowed to get at people etc, and then their parents who actually have zero freaking skill at driving (Even though they constantly say "I've been driving for 20 years and never had an accident!") teach the little twerps how to drive, or should I say, how to make a car move. Literally watched a parent teach their L Plater, on a 4 lane freeway, that you just slam the brakes on, and push your way over, even with a B Double bearing down on you, and that's how you should drive, rather then, just keep going to the next exit. Same shit happens all the time for side streets etc, watching numpties pull dumb shit turns pushing across 3 lanes of traffic, rather than just go up the road another 30 seconds, and take the next turn that'll get you to the same location... Oh, and the damn right lane bandits. Or the retards driving along with their headphones in, and can't hear the ambulance or fire truck right up their ass about to run them over...   Pretty much, people drive on the road, like ego centric f**ks, and don't actually think how dumb shit their driving is, how it could easily kill them or someone else in a split second, or at the very least, how they're driving is contributing to all the shit they're bitching about on the road, like shitty congestion!
