this was the first time i have taken it out in the wet.

in all seriousness i wasnt speeding, all i did was shift from 2nd to 3rd.

do yous know where i can get a r33 series 1 left side fog light from? and the stock bumper?

Look for import wreckers in your state, or even people wrecking 33's that have been written-off. Front bar should be no more than $200, reo about $150 and indicator $75 new from Nissan (so pay less for s/h).

I would consider fitting the later S1 bar (some refer to it as a Type-M), would look great with your grill.

i found a type m bar on ebay but it was only for a series 2 and cost $480 for starting bid.

and i found a top secret front bar for $260 whick looks pretty nice.

can a series 2 bumper fit a series 1? if it does would i have to remove the original fog lights and get series 2 lights to replace them?

Mate, don't buy a series 2 bar cos it wont fit perfectly with your S1 headlights. They are significantly more expensive than S1 bumpers. Go and visit a few import wreckers and make offers on S1 type m bumpers because as Al said it will suit your car best.

I don't trust aftermarket copy/fiberglass bars as the fit is often shit and fiberglass tends to crack and shatter real easy

thanks al and swink 33,your right that bumper is heaps better than the one i have on at the moment.

thanks for showing me the pic of it al cause now i know what im looking for.

but theres a problem....i dont know any import wreckers or anything around where i live,i think there is one in coffs harbour which is an hour away from where i live,i will try and find there number or at least try and find the s1 type m on the net but i doubt it cause all im finding is series 2.

No probs mate and glad to help.

As swink33 said, the problem with fibreglass bars is they never fit 100%, and if you gently hit something or scrape a curb they crack and requires repair.

I like the std bars as if i accidentally hit something, they tend to just flex and bounce back into shape.

I found a 2nd bar for my car, for when i do track days, on these forums, but keep looking and you'll find one on the net. Your car is still drivable, so don't panic if you don't find one in the first couple of days. If you contact some import wreckers in your state, i'm sure they'll be able to freight it to you, don't forget the reo too.

Good luck and thanks for you appreciative comments

Hey Al,

Im looking to modify my series 1 mspec front bumper to allow more airflow, as im going to install a FMIC soon. Did you do it ur self? Angle grind out the middle bar and then wet and dry it back?

Sorry for hi jacking ur thread! Got to be careful with skylines GTS and GTS Ts in the wet... can slide around the place quite easily.

Jrocket that bar is meant for a S2 and is a fibreglass copy of the 400R bar. I personally don't like how your headlights overhang the top of the bar, it just isn't meant for a S1, but there are S1 versions of that bar.

LOL dude its factory plastic this one is. Not cheap fibreglass one. Yeah i thought it was a bit ghey at first with the lights hanging over the bumper. But to be honest you dont really notice it at all when you just look at the car. That low down pic prob doesn't show it at its best.

I had many people complement me on how good it looks with that bar. Meh its kinda grown on me.

Alan

sorry to be a pain in the ass Alan but whats a reo?

No pain mate, i had to learn to when i bought my 'line 8yrs ago

The bar comes in two pieces:

1/ The plastic, cosmetic, skin that you see

2/ Behind the plastic skin is a metal reinforcement bar (ie: reo). This is the structural strength of the front bar.

In most cases when you hit the front bar with any decent force the plastic mainly bounces back into shape after the hit (just like yours pretty much), but the reo will be bashed in and bent. It's easier just to replace it, rather than try and straighten it out again, and if you get a bar like mine, i'm not sure your style reo would fit.

To remove the plastic skin you need to remove your grill. Under the grill there are 3 plastic clips, just pull those out. You'll then need to jack the front of the car up and remove the front part of your guard liners, on either side, in the wheel arches. From the inside of the guard/wheel-arch, where the bar meets the guards, there are two bolts, on either side, that need to be removed. Once all 4 bolts are removed, you'll need to get something like a ruler and slide it under the middle of the headlights, into the white clips that hold the bar to the reo, and then gently pull the bar forward. repeat for other side. Now disconnect the clips on the back of the indicators and the bar should then be free to be removed.

You should then be left with the reo, which is only held by two big bolts, on either side, attached to the chassis rails.

When ordering the bumper, make sure you also get the indicator mounting brackets (one bracket for each indicator). Not sure if the brackets are different, but i know your indicators are the same.

Sorry man, my bad!

You do have the UTTER RARE R33 GTST S2, 50th anniversary, factory option, GTR style bar

NICE PICK-UP.

Those bars are worth a mint, almost as rare as "Hens teeth".

But unfortunately i am still not a great fan of the headlight over-hang, sorry :whistling:

Since you are also from VIC, maybe you should come to a meet/cruise so that i could see how it looks in person :P

Hey Al

Yeah i thought that it was a fairly rare factory option bumper. It was on the car when i got it. :) One guy already offered me $400 for it. How much would you think it could be worth? But dunno it i gunna part with it. I like how its the only skyline around with that particular bumper.

I got to a few cruises etc every now and then. Not sure when the next one is on. I will hav to come for sure. Might check the events section now that you mentioned it. :)

Honestly if you like it DON"T SELL IT!

But if you do decide to sell it, then i wouldn't let it go for less than $800. If the guy really wants it he could pay double the price for a std S2 bar. These things are rare, and offering you the same $'s as a std S2 bar is a joke.

In 8yrs i have only seen pics of this bar fitted on two other 'lines in Australia. And we all know how common 33's are :(

There is a guy selling the front bar indicators in Hunter Valley for $50 for the pair...

Good price.

blitz r33: Just noticed that you have the "fog" lights in your indicator assembly; you could tell the difference by the smaller orange area in your indicators, compared to the ones linked to above, also the reflector line in yours go from top-to-bottom, while the non fog light items go from left-to-right. These aren't as common as the indicator only units, but can eventually be found. If you intend to fit a fmic to your car in the near future, you'll need the non fog light units as the ones you currently have are deeper and will most likely hit the cooler. I know, because i had this same problem and purchased new indicators through Nissan. Both sets use the same loom, so they will just plug right in.

i was just about to buy a fmic until my little accident so now i have to spend the money on repairs,it was a just jap cooling-pro stealth.

it looks like i will have to get new indicators anyway cause the left side fog light and indicator dont work at all, here is a pic of the back of the fog/indicator light, theres wirering going into a plastic cap that is meant to be clipped on a metal rod on the back of the light but the cap is broken so i dont know if thats the problem or not....well heres the pic anyways

    • Actually,  just remembered there should be info in the threads (somewhere) about swapping to a manual steering rack and deleting power steering all together.
    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
