here it goes,

couple months ago went up to sydney with my parents to a dealer coz i was interested in a skyline, everything started off well and i ended up getting one. then the problems started, i took the car up for a service to get the brakes checked coz they were squeching (spelling) etc basic work on a service, pick up the car and i swear it hadnt moved from the spot i parked it when i left it there.

i let things go for a little bit then my clutch burnt out, so under warranty i took it back up there to get it replaced, they then said it doesnt come under warranty i was really confused bout this and they said it comes under wear and tear so im thinkin rightio what does warranty actually cover, and they could not give me a proper answer, so i got the clutch replaced and they ended up charging me 600 for the clutch, 400 for labour, 90 for 2 front bushes and 45 for rear main oil seal which all should have been under warranty, my parents argued and they would not let us take the car until we paid for it, a problem we experienced later on was my alarm was playing up so i asked for the receipt so i could get it checked out, they refused to give me one.

driving from sydney to home ( wollongong) i felt something wrong with my clutch and gearbox, this was 8pm at night after waiting 2 days for my car when it was supposed to be ready that afternoon, i took my car to my mechanic ( which is what i shoulda done 1st up) and he told me they had not changed the thrust bearing so we fixed that, then he looked at me with a real confused face and i asked what was wrong, he said theres no oil in the gearbox, im like wtf, when they drained my gearbox oil up at the dealer they hadnt replaced it!!!!!!!! like how dont u replace it???? u cant just forget that!!! but lucky enough i only drove it 50km till i fixed it so i was lucky in a way.

when i took the car up to get checked out originally and explain bout the clutch the guy driving it was thrashing my car so hard i had to tell him numerous times to calm down, he scraped my front bar on the driveway and speed humps, scraped my exhaust and had no intentions of taking it easy.

we have complained to the actual dealer owner and he says he has nothing to do with the mechanic even though they both work under the same name, and the mechanic says its up to the dealer owner, so 1 says him and the 1 says the other bloke??? make ur mind up boyz....we have put in a complaint to the fair trade ppl and since then have found out the mechanic has no license for that workshop, and now we have a big advantage on them, and now we r still in the process of doing something bout the money we paid for the services and future problems that could happen to the gearbox....

since that day i have taken my car always to my own performance tuner where he is totally honest with me and has fair prices and i have now boosted the car up more and done few other things that i can be really prowd that hes done a great job...

thats jus my experience with the car yard dealer...

cheers all.

I bought my Skyline from a "dealer" and have been so dissapointed in that decision.

I needed to get some small things fixed but when I called him about it he was evasive and didn't want to give me times and hung up on me.

Basically I refused to take my car back to him because I didn't trust him to fix it properly (as you have found, they arent worth shit).

Basically NEVER BUY A PERFORMANCE CAR FROM A USED CAR DEALER. An importer is a different thing from an import dealer. I would only buy an import from an importer in the future. Especially under the new RAW scheme for imports.

SEWID- hehe yer im from wollongong so yer im there all the time, its starting to drop a bit in the amount of cars that come there due to the cops with the defect stations, they started with a defect bay near the entertainment center but now they are actually at the beach on either side of the road and u gotta go past em no matter what so on a nice day when mad cars come down, they usually wait for the cops to leave hahah last time this happened we were there till 6pm then the cops got pissed off and left

ron- check pm

thanx 2BNVS

i m sorry to witness your experience. and thank you for sharing it!

i ve of these guys before.:)

sometimes i go browse around different import yards and it makes me sick when i see these cowboys thrashed these cars without respect. once i saw an R32 GTR with a "SOLD" tag on it being abuse the morning before the buyer pick it up. another one was a soarer which has a rev limitter removed being rev'd the shit out by the proud salesman, and man.. the car was still cold.

I'm not on the dealers side or anything here but say you did import the car you currently own through an importer, do you think they would help you out with the problems you are having? At least buying from a yard you have the oppurtunity to get a roadworthy and thorough check over the car before you buy. There is a big risk involved in importing your own car.

Roadworthy from a used car dealer is a joke. If you buy from a dealer without an RACQ (NRMA) inspection or similar by some one who really knows the type of car you'r buying then you are just asking for trouble. There are valid reasons why used car salesmen have such a terrible reputation. Very definitly a case of BUYER BEWARE.

Sounds a lot like the place i got mine from. It was actually sold to me with 2 BALD tires, i mean steel was starting to stick out, not to mention other defects which through tons of BS i made them fix. Lots more to my story but yeah, better checking around a lot to find a reputable dealer if you want to buy a car from one.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
