Any who i got pulled over by the local cop tonight after finshing work and was told my exhuast was to loud because it was not stock and that i have 7 days to make it quiter. All i have is a 3inch turbo back with a 3inch high flow cat to a cannon with a 4.5inch dump tip is their a way to tell if my exhuast is actually to loud.

cheers james

where are you located mate? in vic we have EPA testing centres, usually exhaust shops with a lisence. they do a DB reading on your exhaust tip at around 4000 rpm then fill out report sheet and forward on to EPA

Whoops should have said that i was in queensland. Another question can the cop just give me fine casue he thinks its to loud or does he have to have proof.

casue he told me that becasue it was not stock their for it was to loud. and i said what the f**k kinda reason is that. the next words out of his mouth was if you wanna get smart with me that will be a $240. the thing that shit me the most off was that i dont think the car is anywere near being to loud

cheers james

you get on you knees behind the car with your ear sealed over the end of your exhaust and get your m8 to rev it to limiter. then the doctor can calculate the exhaust noise level by substitution the damage factor of your ear into a simple mathematical equation.

hahaha excuse me amusing my self

take it in and get a dB test m8. wont cost u much.

Hey mate sound like you got the done over to what I've heard I think the max Db level is 94Db @ 4000-4500

But if you just what to do a quick fix get some chicken wire and jam it down the exhaust that will drop the noise down a shit load

It's not a full time fix but something to get you passed the epa

The thing that shits me off the most is i dont think it is anywhere near 94db and the amount of shit heap feral utes that run around that are far louder than mine. So im of to toowomba on wednesday to get it tested so i dont have to take it back to stock and maybe i should stop driving past his house at night after visting the gf

seriously mate - a 3" turbo back exhaust with high flow cat and those crappy cannon mufflers will be very loud. Get it checked independantly if you like but it is very unlikely to be legal. Just because lots of people do it doesn't mean its legal.

Easiest thing to do is put a standard exhaust on it for the test. Or permanently if you are worried about being caught again

i'd still say it'd be under 90db.. a 2ltr 6 with a 3" exhaust isn't gonna be making that much noise. once you have your exhaust reading, keep the report in your car in case you get pulled over again. Just remember, the way you act will more than likely determine the outcome in an encounter with the police.. many (though not all) police officers are reasonable people. My old car had a similar exhaust setup and was well under 90db, so fingers crossed you wont have a problem. gl !

correct me if i'm wrong, but the last time i was reading the noise rules, the rule was 90db @ half of the vehicles redline.. in a 33 that should be 3500... but that was for qld.. not sure if its different down in vic.
