Hey guys,

I have always wanted to buy a skyline and finally I am looking at one I really like. The car is non-turbo, which is what I want (I'm on my opens) purely because I'm not that into the 'need for speed'. I just love the look and feel of the car.

Anyways, there is something with the car that turns me off it. Every gear, between 3500 and 4000 rpm, the exhaust makes this rattling sound. It's a non-turbo r33 with a stock exhaust. The fella trying to sell it to me reckons thats normal for non-turbo skylines with a stock exhaust.

The car is otherwise pretty damn quiet. I love everything else.

Does anyone know what is going on related to the exhaust?

ps: sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot

pretty common apparently,

In the stock exhaust for n/a(non-turbo) r33's at least, there's a butterfly valve in one of the exhaust pipes that opens up at a certain rpm, could be something to do with that?

Try to see if you can find another n/a r33 to see the sound it makes at the same rpm

good luck,

and welcome to the forums.

P.S you might have better luck in the n/a section of the forums

That must be it...

Becuase the exhaust is really nice/quiet/rublish until EXACTLY 3.5-4k rpm. The second it gets above or below that, no rattle. Took it on the highway to 6k rpm... no rattle. The guy was in the car with me, so can't test it to hard haha.

Anyways, thanks for the reply, and thanks for the welcome.
