I was just wondering what everyones general opinion of Hyperdrive was?

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences at all?

I am going to get a remap and tune with the Nistune product and I want to make sure that they know what they are doing.....

So I guess more specifically, has anyone had their Skyline remapped and tuned at Hyperdrive and were you happy with it?

Cheers!

not very good at keeping quotes.. i was quoted 450 cash at the booking, i collect the car and i was scrapn the tin allready for 450 and he goes thats 550 at pickup and it was because he had to do a bit more tweaking.. its happened to me twice with him, the workmanship is good and the service is good but yeh just be warey about him pricing you

Cool, thats fair enough though as long as it is not an exorbitant increase and there is appropriate justification.

I would imagine a remap and a tune would be different for each car, so it could take longer I suppose.....

Hyperdrive do great work , tuned both of the 31 race cars ( EMS n PFC d JETRO ) with great results and busted there ass all last week to get our new racecar tuned n running for this weekends classic challenge ..

I wouldnt worry about a $450 blowing out to a $550 job . equates to xtra hours labour and if your worried about $100 dont play the CAR game .

Even if it does turn out to be more than quoted, if it is going to be more it would be good for them to at least let you know it will be. I would have liked to have been told when my car needed a full retune but I wasn't. I didn't really care because I knew something weird was going on with the tune so it was a possibilty, but just would have liked to have known as I could have then got them to do the injectors at the same time. Would have cost more at the time but less in the long run...

a quote is a legal standing price and they can not charge more than that before notifying the people involved beforehand that more work / extra costs will be involved

if they give an estimate then that can vary

Hyperdrive are a bunch of great guys. i like a shop that can give me a honest answer and will tell me if im wasting my money instead of just taking it.

they saved me alot of money once by giving me some good advice which could have got them alot of business. in the long run there honesty will earn them alot more from me.

regards

chris

Taken from here:

Make sure you know the difference between an estimate, a quote and a contract. An estimate is not binding and prices may go up. A quote becomes binding when it forms part of a contract — an agreement between the tradesperson and you (the consumer) when the tradesperson offers you services at a fixed price and you accept those services with conditions included in the quote.

So yeah, you should have been charged $450 and they should have asked you if it was ok to do the extra work to increase it to $550.

One would assume then that the quote lasts as long as it is enforceable and reasonable, ie if the quote is 9 months out then its likely it cant be reasonably enforced because of increase in price of labour, parts etc etc..

On topic though, Hyperdrive was always a great place to do business when Ken had it but I haven't had any experience with the new owners. All indications point towards them being pretty good though..

    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
    • How much does the shifter move when the car is in gear with the engine off? If it is more than about 1cm you need to replace your shifter bush. Your shifts will just get crunchier, not faster, with a short shifter unless you also rebuild the whole box
    • I should video mine, will prob do it tomorrow    Between 1st and 3rd, you could fit another two gears. That is how loose and wobbly it is   horrible:(
    • Throws on the FS5R30A in most Nissans of this era are actually quite short and direct compared to any remotely modern BMW with the S6-53 transmission. Those things have throws a mile long with rubbery vague everything. Synchro issues combined with a short shifter is just going to break everything even faster.
    • Only thing I'd add...is on recommendation from a good diff shop, I've used mineral oil in my diff including the race car for years. The synthetics can be too slippery and glaze the gears
