Hey!

So i made sure to use the search before posting to try and avoid being crucified, however i've still come up a few questions short so here goes.

I've got a 32 gts-t and am looking to do a relatively cheap but effective upgrade by getting the rb25det turbo, as my current turbo has recently died.

My searching has led me to believe the difference between the series 1 and 2 rb25det turbos are that series two does not use steel turbines like the series 1?

Is this all that differs between the 2? Also which would be the best option (series 1 or 2) for upgrading the rb20det turbo?

(ps. If anyone is selling a rb25det turbo in adelaide with no or very mininimal shaft play/good condition etc, feel free to let me know)

RB25DET all have ceramic turbines.

S1 = steel compressor

S2 = nylon compressor

R34 Turbo = nylon compressor (and slightly bigger OP6 turbine housing)

I've used both the S1 and S2 on my RB20, and the S2 was better to bring on boost, so get the S2 if you can find one.

My personal opinion is that the s1 turbo is a better upgrade due to the steel compressor wheel, it should be able to make a bit more boost without the chance of it delaminating and being eaten by the engine..

Hell, I'm still running one on my 30 and it's making 12psi at the engine (so roughly ~14psi at the turbo.. don't know what my pressure drop is..) and has been doing so for well over a year as it was on my 20 making the same boost then too :rofl:

When i picked up a replacement RB25 for my RB20 i made sure to get a S2.. Didnt know exactly the difference, i just assumed it would be better since its a newer model so yeah

Yeah that is what i first assumed, until i did my searching :thumbsup:

I guess i'll be on the lookout for a series 2 then.

I think you'll find the ceramic exhaust wheel gives out before the comp wheel so it does not really matter what the comp wheel is.

I've heard stories of those nylon compressor wheels delaminating before the ceramic turbine lets go..

My ceramic turbine seems to be holding up pretty well considering the exhaust housing is choking my engine and glows on a regular basis..

^^ yup, its happened to a couple SAU-Vic club members now i think, comp wheel went as the exhaust one did (probably due to it becoming unbalanced etc) and then going through the intake... not so good.

But a rare thing as i had not heard/seen of it before then, i was surprised it all went past the cooler
