With regards to going over the pits and which pit branch..IT DOES NOT really matter...

I mean I got yellowed once and ended up getting more defects once I was there (no grill in front of the intercooler, small tear on the drivers seat, steering cololum lever "to hard" to adjust, coilvers)

Ahh coilovers... thats a funny one.

The first inspector failed the coilovers.. (said ride was too hard)

The second inspector passed them with flying colurs.. (quote "it not hard at all" unquote......)

Lesson learned that day.................. wether you pass or fail certain modes depends on the individual inspector!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve generally had good inspectors, I tend to chat to them a bit as they are doing their thing, last one was importing a s14 race rally for track/drift work and had some good advice about what really is or isn't legal for road use. It’s not the inspection that bothers me, it’s the whole bending over and taking it because that’s how it is...

Now who knows where I can find the actual legislation regarding the yellow sticker?

i got a yellow on sat night for blown headlight globes. cop didnt even pop the bonnet so he missed the high mount. BUT he put the yellow on a 90 deg angle to the side of the windscreen for some reason he told me it was cos i wasnt allowed to drive it at night. wasnt even being a flamin mongrel or anything. chances are great that i wil now have a very expensive track car.

Ouch that sucks Just peel the sticker off & put it back on straight. If it's on at an angle or far inside the windscreen its sort of like a code to the pits to go ahead & ream you....

When you take it over have the boost as low as you can go & hope you get a reasonable inspector that won't make you get permits, that leads to bulk fun...

dpi.gov.au tells you jack site... I even called them asking for the information or where I could find it and they said they could not help me....

ossie 21 spent like 3 years tryin to get his yellow off. in the end he had to take the head inspector out for dinner and blow all the other techs on site. i suggest you do the same. he had to... even though he enjoyed it.. you may to.

Specifically the guidelines by which they should be handed out, how many things have to be wrong...etc

Haha, you dodgy buggers. Not going to be removing it myself, don't want to dig a deeper hole for myself. Just want to explore all options instead of just bending over and taking it, although it seems that's where its heading anyway

Tough to find them, especially online. But just a quick sum-up they can sticker any car they think has an "illegal" mod or they "suspect" the car doesn't remain within the vehicle standards rules & regulations.

When you go to the pits, whether its for a new rego or a licky, the inspection will be the same. However, the stickers say what they suspect is illegal & it's what they will look at most. In your case now, because the cops were clueless, they haven't given the pits much detail. When you go there, they will have a look at ur sticker paperwork & think oh goody.

So what I'm thinking at the moment with yours, if it's mechanically good & not too loud (everything plumbed back, no leaks etc), and have a good attitude & explain the story to them you probably won't have a problem. If you think playing ignorant will help you can try it, but remember they will have the rego history etc on the system, so if they go to check on that & see you have have had the car for years, but you told them you only just bought it & they said it was stock, then expect problems.

All I'd advise is make an inspection booking to your nearest centre, do anything you have to with the car & take it there. From what you have said here I can't see you having too much trouble if you are just polite & honest about it all.

got inspected today the guy went over it with a fine tooth comb, picked up an oil leak out of the remote filter, pod filter was a bit loose, steering rack boot was f**ked and the front bar needs repairing and apparently i had no brake lights, gave me 2 weeks will be easy to get off, also mentioned that i get a modification permit for my high mount, pod an bov just to be safe, $14.30 hopefully itl be worth it.

Found the acts, It is part of the ROAD TRAFIC (VEHICLES) BILL 2007, Bellow is clause 73, there are other parts to it...

73. Form and content of defect notices

A defect notice is to --

(a) be in writing in a form approved by the CEO; and

(b) specify the alleged defect ; and

© set out each direction given under section 72(1) and, if

relevant, section 72(2); and

(d) state when the notice comes into force, being either --

(i) when the notice is issued; or

(ii) a later time.

The part that interests me is the "specify the alleged defect" as writing "post manufacture modifications to comply with vehicle standards regulations" is not specidying any alleged defect...
