i think whoever told u HKS zorsts where loud has a few things to learn, i have a HKS System and it is not very loud at all, it basically just gives the car a really nice deep note, doesnt drone, and still has all the performance benefits.

i have a 5zigen cat back, 2 3/4 inch, it could be a turbo exhaust im not sure, but its drony and loud only between 1500-2000rpm

Rest of the time its more then fine.

My car has this very distinctive exhaust note and this nice throbbing, any one else have this. Im sure its from the RB25 engine :D

hey nismodified - the throbbing ur talkin about - ive got it too! sounds pretty good eh?

do you get a different, louder sound generally when cold and in lower revs? kindof a slapping, throbbing through the zorst - cause i get that for bout 5 mins every morning - neone know what that is?

i dont get that sort of noise, but i know of another Rb25DE that does have a similar noise u described

mine has a very deep note, but its hard to describe since im always inside the car when it revs thru the rev range :(

ive been thinking about making myself a straight thru pipe for sometime now..

within the next few weeks i have access to this computerised oxy cutters and welding gear, i should be able to cut some flanges out of 5-10mm metal plate....2.5" piping wont be hard to get,...weld me up a straight through pipe....for off road private use of course

I got a simple muffler fitted to my car for pure fx, coz i have no money, the muffler is 2.5inlet and 5" outlet, it makes a hell load of noise but in certain parts of the revs, ie: 2000-3000 main offender, it makes a shit crackling/snapping noise, i have NFI what it is but it ruins what is otherwise a really sweet sound.

i like the crackleling popping noises ;) but thats me

it happens to me usually when i back off the throttle on decent revs.

It should be cause by unburnt fuel passing into the exhaust system.

A simply solution to get rid of the popping, if your not using 98octane fuel, then a switch to optimax, synergy or ultimate may clear up or at least reduce the noises.

    • Just got the car back and gave it a good run back home Power wise, whilst it only made a extra 5 killerwasps up top at 7200 rpm, it made more power everywhere from 2500 rpm and kept pulling much harder all the way, to the point of me relearning when to shift so I don't hit the 7200 limiter, with the old intake it seemed to take alot more time to rev out, and, throttle response is also much improved  As I didn't want to remove the bumper every time I serviced the air filter (basically every aftermarket and fabricated CAI has the filter behind the bumper) it currently has a hektic exposed pod in the engine bay sucking in hot air, this will be rectified shortly after some some of my CAD (cardboard assisted design) for a alloy heat shield feed by the OEM intake tube behind the bumper, this will cop some wrinkle black paint, as well as the intake pipe for that totally OEM look... The only fly in the ointment was that the OEM "strut" brace doesn't fit over the rear runner of the new intake with the 2.5 engine is in the engine bay, as the 2.5 raises the engine up by 20mm, it's not a war stopper, and I didn't notice any difference without it in some twisties, but....... MX5 Mania is bringing in some GWR "fancy pants" braces that apparently do fit, if it bolts up I'll grab it, it is also stiffer than the OEM one, which is a bonus All in all I'm happy with the outcome      Fancy pants "strut" brace that gives the required clearance      This is where the clearance issue was, the GWR extends out past this
