Hey guys,

Hoping you lto can help me out :D

I've been reading the IPRA regulations, specifically around the rollcage :down:

It says the following:

"14.1 Roll over protection structures: Roll over protection structures must comply with Schedule J (refer to Section 6 of the CAMS Manual of Motor Sport). They must be constructed so that no parts of their structure extends outside the passenger compartment, nor penetrates any body panels except for holes drilled for attaching the cage to the vehicle. It is not permitted to fit additional bracing outside the passenger compartment, other than a strut tower brace as described in Article 9.7. It is permitted to attach parts of the safety cage to the interior of the passenger compartment, either by welding or bolting. The removal of the minimum amount of upholstery to assist the fitment of the safety cage members is permitted."

Does the bold bit mean that I must weld the backstays to the wheel wells, and can't extend them into the boot to weld onto the strut towers???? :banana:

absolutely.

You are OK to with sports sedans and production cars, but for some reason IPRA doesn't allow it.

But....unless you are looking to do full racing its not a problem - supersprint/hillclimb/club days etc have more relaxed rules. And if you are looking to race in IPRA you are mad :D

if you're building a post '86 model car, the Late Model regs allow you to penetrate the firewall with 2 members to the strut towers, but not through the rear bulkhead. Make sure you read sections 17 & 18 for all the additional freedoms & requirements for LM vehicles.

Dundan - I'm not looking to race in IPRA, but a set of rules to (somewhat) guide my build wouldn't be a bad thing. Although this rule doesn't seem to make any sense at all, especially since as Harry mentioned, Late Model cars are able to punch through the front firewall to the front struts!

Although IPRA isn't on the cards, I wouldn't mind building the car to specs that gives me the freedom to sign up to a "real racing" category at some stage without having to re-do all whole heap of modifications! :bunny:

Harry - Thanks mate, yep I noticed that little paragraph :)

This was a safety issue, particularly with LM front wheel drive cars and in general all LM's with crumple zones.
