Hi,

Currently have an R33 with a FMIC cooling pro kit from justjap.

I am currently using the normal piping kit that it comes with (where you have to cut the whole) but i met a guy and was speaking to him about his R33 and his piping for the FMIC.

Basically i told him how i wanted to get rid of the cut whole, and run a pipe back underneath the cooler back to the stock piping (like the Blitz - LM kits). He then told me that you dont need to do that, instead he got a custom pipe made up that runs underneath the abd through the bar and up from the buttom of the engine. It then comes up back to the pipe that sits over you fan. I asked him who did it for him and he said a joint in dandenong but i cant remember for the life of me what the place was called. And his number has changed so i cant get ahold of him ><

Attach is an Example of what im talking about (excuse the crappy diagram)

Does anyone run a similar setup?

Does anyone have an idea who this joint in dandy would be (i no theres a few)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Oh thats nice :bunny:

however i cant really sell my FMIC cause my car was in an accident and the FMIC is a bit beat up. mainly the piping. So wouldnt be able to sell i dont recon.

Hrmm $550 for that kit. Seems ok. But i could always just go back to stock cooler. Im only running an exhaust and 12 psi. Not other mods.

If you have airbags - i wouldnt even go about cutting the drivers side of the car body.

Its illegal, and an engineer will put you car off the road permanently as sometimes they wont even sign off on the repair.

Police are slowly but surely becoming tougher on this and sending cars to engineers who in turn are failing them instantly, so avoid doing it.

If you DONT have an airbag, then away you go as there is no legal impact.

Any workshop should be able to do the piping how you want.

RE Customs are in Springvale and thier cooler installs are very reasonably priced, i'd go there if i was you

Not sure if you miss understood or not, but i currently have a cooling pro kit installed on my car (via the whole method on the drivers side)

Im aware of all these laws which is the reason i want to get rid of it and fix it up before i get caught.

My car has airbags so even without the whole does the FMIC pose a problem? and if so is it as simple as taking it off and getting it re-cleared.

If there is an issue with having a FMIC like the new justjap ones (where no wholes are required) due to me having airbags i may just go back to stock....or get a R34 GTT side mount.

The diagram mentioned above was what i "want" to do, it runs from under the car and up somehow, which means i can fix up the whole. and theres no whole in my engine bay.

Not sure if that part made sence when i wrote in OP.

So my question really would be, is it still illegal for me to have a FMIC without doing the "no whole" method. (my car has airbags)

Would there be an improvent with a R34 GTT SMIC over the stock R33 one?

cheers

Ah i get ya - i only skimmed as was a bit busy earlier - plus more info - makes sense together now

you'll wanna be very careful with the repair, as i dont think they are 'allowed' to even sign off on a repair like that (which is a bit silly)

So if its really good, it wont be spotted and you should be ok.

If you dont plan on upgrading turbo GT-T sidemount is the goer.

But then you already have the FMIC there, i'd just get the piping re-routed on that one partiular side and you should be fine

GTST- can you comment on performance of that return pipe setup? Is it as good/better than the driver's side return pipe FMIC's? Cheers

Yes, it's noticable as soon as you turn the car on. A good upgrade.

so even tho i have airbags. im allowed a FMIC mounted in its position, just as long as there is NO WHOLE?

P.S i havent been caught yet *knocks on wood*, but i wanna get this cleared ASAP and fix it up so know one will ever notice

cheers

Appreciate the help so far :)

do you still have the old number?

if so type it into google you might get lucky and find an old listing somewhere and there name.

haha already tried :P

If having a FMIC like the new cooling-pro stealth kit is not illegal then i would consider just buying a new kit. But if its gonna be illegal cause i have airbags. Then id prob stick my stock back on or just get a R34GTT.

Are the R34 GTT coolers easy to come buy ?

I posted in the Wanted to Buy section and in a couple of weeks had one behind my front bar :P

i think nismoid was saying that the hole you cut for normal routing is illegal, the cooling stealth pro uses the standard piping route so you dont have to cut any holes, the only other problem you are going to have (same as me) because you have after market piping you will also have to buy the factory piping to make it fit.

Ye ill do that if i decide to buy one

I have the factory piping still, i keept all my Stock intercooler parts when i upgraded. For a rainy day :P

Im just not sure if having a FMIC mounted even with the stealth kit is legal, due to airbag sensors and what not...i need Nismonoid to clarrify me on this !!

Thanks guys

he is not talking about the ABS sensors.

cutting a hole on the drivers side makes changes to the cars chassis and it's crumple zone/design.

which also means it effect airbag deployment etc.

your car is currently illegal. - you already know this.

patching up the hole (really well so it can't be obvious that there way a hole there), should be fine in terms of the law.

also, any exhaust shop that has the tools and ability to cut/weld aluminium can re-do the current coolers pipework.

but if it were me, I'd sell it, patch the hole use your stock parts and an R34 GTT intercooler.

R33boy - I can't comment on if it is better or not. just that it keeps your engine looking stock.

If I were to go that path, I'd paint the cooler and the pipes it comes with Black also.

But I'm boring like that.

It looks good in the picture, but some guy on these forums fitted on to his R33.. and either he really bodged it up, or the kit lines up really badly.

maybe search the forums for "cooling+pro+stealth" or something..

see his pics.

or was that you? lol....
