I haven't seen a gts skyline run a 12.56 with the small amount of mods or money my friends 300zx has had done to it! The only reason people reckon they are a dud is because they have shitbox ones which you wwill get in any car & also because they read 2 many magazines & don't experience them in real life!

I have heard many a mechanic say they have major overheating issues. Plus they are a pain in the arse to work on. I dont doubt the fact that your friend has a fast 300zx.

It depends on what sort of mechanic you are i guess! My mate is an aircraft engineer & the z is easy to work on compare to some planes! The z also has an awesome top end of around 275kph
