R34 Gtt Slip Light

I got an R34 Gtt and sometimes after gear changes the "slip" light flashes and power is limited for a few seconds..

i have searched forums and could trace it down to the coil packs.. when i bought it the guy said they had been updated..

just wanna check/confirm it is the coilpacks.. all searches in forums seems like others have the slip light stay on.. but mine flashes for a few seconds then goes away :S and no other lights come on.. could this be the same prob?

It could be a range of issues (e.g. bald tyres, weather), what makes you think that the coil packs could be causing the traction control system to engage? What happens when you disengage TCS does the problem go away? Because the easy solution is to grab Dan666's TCS bypass module.

nah tyres are fine (not new but fair tread).. normal qld weather not raining or anything..

i will have to test with tcs off.. brought it down to coil packs as this seems a problem in r34.. however my problem seemed a little different from the others i found in the forum as my slip light flashes for a few seconds only and doesnt stay on? this only seems to happen on gear changes (not all the time).. usually when i come to change down a gear..

may not be coil packs which is why im asking but seems the genuine response with similar problems..

I'm still not sure what the correlation between coils misfiring between gear changes and the traction control system is.. but yeah try it out and post back the results.. i'm really curious now. Can you give us a run down of modifications?

wat sort of mods do u have do u have stiff suspension. does it have an aftermarket computer

coil pack shouldn't have anything to do with tcs...

if u have ur tcs on, then what ur car is doing is normal...probaly when ur gearing down ur rear wheels are spinning, so traction control does its job and kicks in, limiting power and making the car feel dead for a few seconds...

turn tcs off and u well no longer have this issue...

hey guys.. yeah jeffboyracer that could be the thing.. i mean it doesnt start spinning but quite possible and im jus freakin out it doesnt do it when traction control is off.. yeah suspension is pretty stiff.. as for engine modifications it's got:- brass button clutch, greddy intercooler, 3inch turbo back, oil cooler.. i have a power fc but not installed yet..

i wasnt saying it was the coil packs.. that jus seemed a main problem with other slip lights

Exactly - drive any modern car with a TCS system - they all flash when they intervene. Its normal.

yeah well i've had a commonwhore wioth no tcs.. was strange cause i didnt think it would kick in as the revs wasnt that high.. then word on the forum was the original coil packs are shit.. wasnt sure.. but all sweet it seems.. will be goin on dyno within couple of weeks for the power fc

how do you drive it ? depends on the driver and there mastering techniques, i have that problem around corners only AS U WOULD

yeah happens moe than i think it should.. i just turn it off cause it works when it's not required.. that was the problem.. tcs thought i would skid.. or whatever and activate.. i turn it off and never get any problems.. more kick out of it too...

had tcs on in the rain the other day.. with brass button clutch.. nasty.. wierdest shit i've felt.. 1st gear..

I have this issue with my R34, and can confirm that there was no improvement after I installed brand new splitfire coils and new plugs.

Solution is as above, I drive with TCS off, although I would like to fix it.

As everyone has said, it has nothing to do with your coilpacks. They only provide spark to the spark plugs... not interfere with the whole drive line. TCS kicking in is a normal thing that happens when your driving breaks traction to stop your wheels spinning and unnecessary tyre tread wear. Yes it does feel weird, but this feeling would be enhanced by the stiffer suspension and your brass button clutch probably isn't doing you any favours either. But thats why you have that little "fun" button under the steering wheel, so you can tell the car that "No! This is how i want to drive... i like wheel spin dammit!!"

i do..tcs sucks with brass button.. does not help in the rain!! i want the car to start with TCS off then i can choose if i want it on lol DAMMIT

I think crappy or bald tyres are a much more likely cause thanks coilpacks?? the weather is pretty shit this time of year so it's not unusual to get wheels to spin if it's wet and/or the tyres are crap as previously mentioned.

i got bridgestone 255/40/17's they not crappy either.. and the shit thing is that with tcs off and doin the EXACT same thing with driving i got no wheel spin.. no loss of traction.. nothing.. jus like normal driving.. that's where i thought there was an issue.. i think as it was suggested that the brass button clutch does me no favours.. especially in the wet.. tcs sucks when taking off with the brass button.. cause you gotta give it some..
