Timing Belt For Rb30det (which One Is Correct For My Engine)

Hey people

My timing belt got wet again (oil) and i need to replace it, last one cost me $92 and it is only 2000kms old :)

anyways i was looking at the rb30 guide and it seems that i have been using the wrong belt ? Anyway my engine is using this configuration...

My config.

Info for this config says...

Required a belt thats 11 teeth longer with a total of 152 Teeth, the dayco part number is 94407

Not reccomended cos the belt comes to close together, and the belt is thinner 25mm vs 30mm

It uses a Gates Powergrip GT2 p/n 1200 8MGT 30 1200mm long 8mm pitch on teeth 150 teeth 25mm wide (cut down from 30 at factory)

Also uses the bosh VB-T866. Which cross references to T291 (so they tell me and its exactly the same and its only $47 25mm wide 152 teeth they tell me so it does have 152 teeth its just smaller)

I have been using the T866 belt on my engine, but the configuration says to use the dayco 94407 which has 2 more teeth then the gates powergrip your supposed to use on this one. I am confused on which one I am to get.

Where do you get the Dayco 94407 ? i think thats the belt i want this time, or does it not matter which one you use ? i would think the thicker one with 152 teeth would be better.

anyway what does everyone here use ?

You can use a mazda familia diesel 1.7 litre timing belt, they are $17 bucks in NZ. Or you run one off a VW something, its 151 teeth, so you need the belt before you drill the hole for the top tensioner. its a better tooth profile and fits the pulleys better.

Myself and a few mates are all running the mazda diesel belt on our rb30's probably at least 8 engines, and no failures

Hahahaha..  this is gold...  

 

Building my third RB30DET and had some confusion with the timing belt,  google the question and there we go,  I answered my own question 10 years ago =)

      Maaaan so many "little" things  i rly hope my old RB20 would be "ok" and not too bad. I try to learn what and what not do i need. I look at crossmember at it looks different...even parts numbers are different. Wiring and all that i rly do not know...yeah someone mentioned the speedo thing. On that yoke clip. I rly do not know what can and cant be done "custom" so that is why iam asking to know and not be suprised 🙂  I know what it looks like

      Oh, there's also the gearbox crossmember which will probably be different between the small box and the big box, and the wiring loom will probably need to be modified, because the plugs for the switches etc, will probably be different. And I think the speedo on the small box R34s is from somwhere stupid, like the diff, possibly, so you'd need to work out what needs to be done about that (assuming it is different). I think the thing you need to realise is that the front end of that yoke is a large hollow tube with splines on the inside that mates with the splines on the box's output shaft. It is a dedicated thing - not available "aftermarket". They were made to suit that box, by the car's OEM.

      You need to buy a Saab Matt, ours had a button that turned all the dash lights off. Any decent aftermarket dash has sufficient brightness control and a headlight input for day/night settings. None of which probably helps OP

      Yeah thanks...i thought it would be alot more i dont know 😄 I saw some videos on converting push/pull and it seems you need to "drill" the hole for slave(master) cylinder and buy some converter kit. On that front yoke clip i did not even know that is a thing and i need to source that(custom shops do not do that?) But anyway thank you for the info
