It is a cast alloy flared pipe that goes between the turbo comp inlet and the AFM. It has a BOV return pipe and provision for oil breather return etc. Very dark and dusty pic below

Comments: They have done ~ 80,000 since I bought the car. There are no signs of leaks and they still perform well. I don't know the spring rates but they are quite firm.
