In fact since the introduction of the Australian Road rules the specific offences have actually become far more specific rather than crudely worded or broadly worded as they were in the Traffic Act 1909.

As I said, undue or excessive acceleration can be an element of the listed offences but is not an offence in itself.

yes they're better then in 1909...

They still suck ass though, I don't think anyone here can disagree... I've spent a week researching trying to find the wording on laws, and the ADRs are crudely indexed...

Either way, I forget what we are debating now... :P

Gotta love some of those ye-olde regulations, I tried to get a friend of mine to procede my car with a swinging lantern on the hwy so I could safley complete my journey home after dark last week....but he wasn't keen :thumbsup:

hey im from melbourne, and we also have the anti-hooning laws

i have to agree that there doesnt really seem to be much of a correlation between the road toll and hoons. whenever a teen dies from racing it makes the news (not that often). the people that die while speeding often do it in the wrong type of car. there has been a lot of controversy over speeding fines and revenue raising. i dont believe fines were introduced to boost revenue, but at this point they are factored in to the budget. so it can be assumed that fines arent given just for safety reasons. some defets such as having a low car dont actually make it less safe (unless the springs have been cut). the police (at least here in melb) have the tendency to issue defects for tyres that are too wide, there isnt much reasoning in that as wider tires=more traction, but ahwel. also stupid defects like handbrake clicks (on autos) and pod filters is ridiculous.

as for the whole emmisions thing, an r33 gtst has lower emmisions than most v8s of the same age. most jap cars have smaller engine size but account for it with turbos. while driving normally, the car doesnt burn as much petrol where as the v8 is constantly guzzling.

though iv had serious luck when it comes to police *touch wood*, i still have to complain and whine and bitch cuz i know eventually the laws are going to get to the point where we are left without any freedoms (going past cars to drinking and smoking etc.) so we need to stop letting the government walk over us. the worst thing that can be done is to turn the other cheek and say 'oh its ok, its only a minor thing that theyre taking away from me'.

the road toll is never going to be zero, because people have a tendency to screw up. even over-engineered space shuttles stuff up and theyre designed and operated by the most brilliant minds on our planet, so its safe to say that there will be accidents. though the road toll can be reduced, anti-hooning laws arent going to get the result that the public (and the government) claims to want.

as somebody mentioned earlier, technological advancements are going to account for the largest reductions (ESP will reduce by 30%).

lol i just realised i wrote a book, soz guys, hope someone read it and gives some feedback, also soz if i said something that was wrong, i just went on a bit of a rant lol...so any feedback would be nice (obviously support would be nicer)

In some states of america it's 'LAW' that if a man's wife is driving he has to run in front of the car flying a yellow flag to warn other drivers a woman is approaching! True story!

Also increase turning circle, cause wear on tyre by rubbing on well or lip, causing serious defect in tyre and finally pucnture (maybe at speed)

I agree about some of what you said HOWEVER...

When cars are lowered too much they often end up hitting the bump stops when cornering or more importantly when cornering and hitting a pothole... What occurs then is bump-steer which is simply the car bouncing around.... A really dangerous thing... I like cars low, I have a mini cooper s with 2 inch ground clearance... But I have also re-engineered the subframe mounts, control arms, etc... most people dont do that.... (BTW its a race car lol)

Wider tyres may give more grip everything else remaining the same. The problem isnt the guys who do a great job, roll the guards perfectly and check for clearance at all angles... Its the fool who leaves sharp edges on his inner guards which the tyre rubs on and eventuallly go POP!

But i do agree with you about not letting the government take away our rights to things... Cue V for Vendetta.

LOL! i admit it as well to some extent im a hoon!! 90% of people owning a skyline which is modded with 3" exhaust have already been a hoon on the streets to some extent so why don't you just all admit that you were or still is one. Just stop defending yourself and be in denial okay? im sick of these uptight members who acts like they always obey the law but infact have disobeyed it few times.

Anyway im against the fact cops pull you over for having a beauty car, but then again having a beautiful car means you would want to show off by being a hoon at some time. So just i guess im living with this pain

That does not mean yesterday, albeit there was no traffic, laying a huge power slide onto a by-pass which was wet from rain..... no noise, or ssmoke = me having a license :bunny:

I'm with you too although what you are describing is not bump steer. Twice on SAU cruises an uninvited subaru forrester or similar, way too low has pretty much bumped off the road and crashed badly. No one hurt in either case. Two different unrelated cars btw.

As for 99.9% of defects being fair enough to the letter of the law Malcolm. I think the percentage is lower. Ask Steveo about being defected for something being too shiny and having too many km on the clock (43x,xxx km).

If you've ever spent some time reading through ADR's and other laws in an attempt to comply you will see just how stupid some of them are. It's not so much the cops enforcing incorrectly, although they do, it's more a case of who the f**k really knows!? This is not just in relation to cars although they are a great example, it comes up all over the place. We live in an over governed country.

Sorry mate, but the lowered car issue is more than just about R.W.C..

1. It's to do with curb/median strip height... car too low it won't bounce up and over, it'll dig in and somersault...result, everyone dies

2. It's for pedestrian safety...well at least it used to be before the 100mm clearance and obesity issues.

i bet u dont get pulled over much in your r35 just like my mate never did in his s15 but now they are more common gets pulled over regularly

a good tactic is to stop hanging around in the taget areas i have been driving a fully modded vl turbo to work and back and around and havent been pulled over yet for few years now. but i bet if i go to the beach on thursday night they'll be waiting to defect me.

i seen it recently hwy patrol heard a noisy civic and ueyd and targeted him.

u have to drive a sleeper these days or be prepared to clear some defects

    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.  
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments

    • Ah yes but were you responsible? In the time I've had it (just before Christmas) I spun off the track twice and drove into things twice, so four separate incidents.. in two outings. Luckily I have a full OEM GTR front end to put on which is hopefully not a precursor for further, future, more expensive mistakes to come. It is some consolation that anyone who would want to buy my Altia bar would have to paint it anyway, the guards, too. (if they can get over the asymmetry). Hopefully over the weekend I will disassemble and see how badly things are bent. From what it looks like, the headlight has actually just been pushed back and bent the headlight support (which .. somehow... crushed the guard in). I guess the headlight plastic is strong stuff.
