Vi-PEC skyline plug-in is $1750 and has the map sensor built in. It runs all the factory sensors and AFM support is due on the next firmware upgrade.

Ahhh ok .. I thought these things would be a lot cheaper since they're new and trying to grab a market share. I can get a PFC for less than that and it's 'proven' technology (just saying, in terms of $$$ not trying to start a flamewar)

What's the diff between the plug-in board and the full ecu ?

The difference between this and the powerfc is all the extra features. If you look at it from a price perspective a powerfc + z32 afm + boost controler cost more than the plugin ecu.

Brand new Power FC's for your car are $1980...lol

Thats a $230 saving already!

Then if you want to make any decent power you need a Z32 $300 + plug $35

Then maybe some electronic boost control...add another $500

its starting to get expensive isn't it...you are getting almost $200 change from $3000 and you are still left with a very basic product that in my opinion and everyone elses who has first hand experience with both products, wont run your car as nice as the Vi-PEC.

The plug-in board is the full ecu...designed with the STD Nissan plug and designed so its easily screwed into the Nissan ECU case. Nice and discreet to avoid defects, theft, voiding insurance claims etc..

you do have a point but R34 pfcs can still be found for around $1400 (one went for that price just recently) 2nd hand .. and most people already have an ebc. But yeah if I didn't already have an EBC installed and was looking for an ecu this would probably be my choice to.

How much for the V88 ? I take it the major diff is the knock detector?

Im just compaing like for like...Vi-PEC's are brand new...not 2nd hand. The knock amp for the plug-in can be purchased from a dealer. For a road car the V88 is overkill but ill get you a price if you like.

I would have to disagree dirt. The power fc can run your car as "nice" as the vi-pec can. However, this mainly applies to stock rb's so if you only have a stockish car with stock turbo then you wont need a bigger afm or a boost controller so you would probly be happy with the limited power fc.

Only problem with that is once you have the power fc then you are stuck with it, once you start doing some mods you will need a decent boost controller ($600 for PFC kit) a Z32 AFM + plug and then you still have a power fc which suffers from many issues that a modded car with a power fc have.

So you want to upgrade your stock ecu ? or your getting serious about your Skyline and you want to move to power gains... The Vi-Pec is a far better ECU for the job. Do the job properly the first time - do the job once and be done with it - You will save lots of money in the long run.

Fair call...but who here drives a stocker?...a few examples above have highlighted that the Vi-pec runs the car better in most instances. Mark just did a V88 in a completely standard 2JZ Supra and finished with a car that ran smoother than the stock ecu could.

Alot of people have stockers here, and they are the ones where the power fc will be a good choice. If anyone has a stocker and needs a ecu to start modding their cars.. the bug will bite and mods will allways follow because the power gains you get is never enough so if you get the vi-pec to start with then there will be no brick wall or expensive upgrades needed in AFM's / Boost controllers / Launch Interfaces that you will need extra because they are not needed with the V44.

The V88 is a far advanced ecu is only needed for very serious race cars.

I agree, my car was stock, installed a V88 and everything improved, cold & warm start, idle which are things you would assume the stock ecu would do better, not so. V88 is the ants pants!

not everyone can justify a V88 for a stock car unless they have big plans for the car in the future which I am going to give it a big guess that you have big plans :)

If not then it is always good to have decent management from the word go even if your not going to mod the car for a long time, at least you know the job is done and it does not have to be re-done ever again.

lol...the ants pants...haven't heard that one for a while. Time will be good for this product as it is human nature to be aprehensive about new things, change etc.

I am not answering this question. It has been answered 20 times or more since the thread has been started.

Well I sifted through all the crap and for those that care, it seems a you need a knock amplifier board which is an additional $240.

Or if you are more confident with electronics KC5444 from jaycar for a whopping $16.95. though you need to build it, make a case for it and make all the wiring for it and then once its all setup tune the amplification so that its not missing the knock or making false knock readings.

    • Welcome back to the scene! Godzilla Motorsports were well regarded back in the day.  My GT-R had work done there prior to my ownership.   SRS (Street Race Solutions) in Toowoomba worth a look.  They've built some pretty wild Skylines. Their YouTube channel is comedic to watch!  I'm sure they're all on the glass BBQ but they get shit done! 🤣
    • Hard to say what the extra connector is, it looks a bit like a coax type connector, so possibly a separate radio/GPS antenna, or even another camera input?  The V37 series (including the Q50), did go through a model refresh in 2020, since Australia didn't get any Q50s newer than 2019, we didn't get any of the refreshed models, so there could also be other unexpected problems to overcome to swap an older Q50 head unit into a new model V37. There probably aren't too many people around that have made these sorts of changes to a Q50/V37, so you might end up being the first if you do decide to go ahead. ACP is Apple Car Play and AA is Android Auto, they are roughly the same thing for the 2 major phone operating systems (Apple's iOS and Android), it allows you to connect your phone and access a number of your phone applications on your car system.  With Nav apps included, so you could use google maps/Waze or whatever your favourite navigation app is, instead of using the built in navi system.  I think this would be a better solution if it is only Navigation that you are looking as swapping the head unit for. GPS signals are the same around the globe as the GPS satellites continuously circle the globe, but it is the head unit that doesn't allow you to load Australian maps, or at least no-one had made an Australian map that will load up on the JDM head unit. Regarding the TV standards, I assume you are referring to the AV inputs?  I haven't ever tried to use them, Japan used a slightly modified version of the US NTSC system, and Australia uses PAL for composite video, that said, I wouldn't be surprised if a video input could work with either system.  That is mostly irrelevant here though, unless you plan to use those inputs for something?
    • If you've got bucket loads of $. Go single. If not, just upgrade the twins, Garrett -9's or whatever the current equivalent is for a healthy 350awkw and leave it at that. Will probably still cost you 10k to do in this day and age.
