Hi All

Anyone here with a GT8 finding it really slow to take off? or is it just my bad driving skills? I tend to think my driving skills aren't too bad.

I had a few runs with my friend's 05 WRX (with exhaust and filter only) and it totally killed me at the start.... I'm talking about 4 - 5 car lengths in the first 100 to 150m(in manual mode with VDC off). After that its really hard to catch up.

I have driven his car before, I know that I would beat him on a rolling start (third gear on WRX is shit!!!!), but that's besides the point. He will still beat me on a quarter mile run.

Does anyone on this forum know the best launch technique on their GT8? I think that the first gear is really big (goes to 80KM/H) and this is the downfall. After the defeat, I'm hesitant to challange any car with a manual transmission.

And does anyone here hate that it changes gear automatically when you hit the redline? I'm really thinking of a manual conversion after I blow this gearbox.

its got a CVT transmission in it which means

1) there's no gears like a regular auto

2) really slow to take off

the advantages being that its super smooth to drive...

the CVT isn't performance orientated, if you want something to spin the wheels on takeoff sell the GT8 and get a regular auto or manual car

also, the WRX has better than average takeoff given that its 4wd - its their best attribute

Correct me if im wrong, but there are hardly any driver skill when it comes into dragging in a auto car... all u have to do is push down the gas let the car do the rest.

plus what makes u think our car will beat a WRX in a straightline drag? these r AWD compared to RWD, meaning they won't have any traction issue, the only time a 350GT (let it be auto or manual) can beat a WRX is when u r in 5th of 6th gear i think...

As far as awd turbo cars go, I have owned in recent times a wrx, evo vi and the later model 2.5l v6 twin turbo galant vr-4. I believe that the 350gt would give all of them a good run for their money.

Having said that I do not think these cars are traffic light warriors, or to be used that way.

I have the same thing in mine. Slight stumble on takeoff, but enough to be back 3-4 car lengths against the WRX's and V8's. I've convinced myself that it is slow on takeoff because it needs that time to make the switch between the 2 toroidal "gears". That's why the revs go high, then low then high again. This is the conclusion I have come to. But rolling start from high revs in second - the car screams. Do a 70-180 test and the car keeps up with most of those 13 second cars. Others may say BS but this is what I've found.

I'm pretty sure if there was better logic in the TCU we could avoid this, but I have tried and tried in vain so far to find an update.
