Qld Transport

Hey guys got a few quick questions for some guys out there who might have been in the same situation as me.

Last night got pulled over by silver aurion (not local) and got defected for 2 low (plenty other stuff could have been written but wasnt,dont know why?)

they sent me a notice to visit the pits at qld transports, what im wondering is can i de register the car then re register it at a later date, will this stop me from having to go over the pits?

i cant really send car over the pits, im sure they will pick out alot more problems other then it being 2 low as written on my notice?

any help would be appreciated

Well yeah you could however you would still have to take it to pits.. but all pits will do is give you a notice to fix the defect.. if you was to deregister the car then it is no longer a problem as it's not on the road. You could then take it to get road worthy (if your in the know).. register it as a new vehicle and your back on the road..

I would be calling qld transport about taking it to pits.. see if you de-register the car whether it still has to go.. jus tell them its undrivable atm or something and so thats why ur de-registering it

yeah mate i just got off the phone to qld transport guys in maryborough and once its de registered the defect it cleared so all good

Deregistering and reregistering the car may or may not get you around your immediate problem but, providing you're able to find someone who'll RWC it at its current height, you'll be driving a car that could easily be defected the next day, then you're in the crap again. What then? Dereg and rereg again?

Why not just make the car legal and avoid the headache altogether? 100mm is fairly low and if you go much lower you'll struggle to get the car to handle.

the car only sits low because it has stock wheels on it 16s

if i put 18s or 19s back on it, the car will sit way above legal 100mm height.

first time ive been done in 2 and half yrs, but yeh i see your point..

I am happy to be wrong....But wouldnt you have to pay for the car to be re-registered and have the all the hassles of a RWC etc...just chuck some 18's on and there you go

my rego runs out 8th of next month so de registering it isnt a big hassle cause i gotta pay 6 months rego anyway.

Watch out if you do just re-register and get a roady because if you get pulled over and see you've just registered the car they'll hunt down your mechanic for giving the roady...

also have you checked the rolling diameter difference between the standard 16s and 18s or 19s. remember it can only legally be +15mm rolling diameter, which means it hardly raises your car much at all. The height of your rig, i reckon you will still be pinned for under 100mm!

Do you have adjustable coilovers? or what sort of suspension? oh btw considered that even if you de-reg then re-reg the car that the offence will still be on your licence and record anyway? it usually stays on there for awhile so your not really fixing anything? just go get it raised to legal height and btw the pits itself in most cases just look at the defects present on the slip and usually dont take much notice of any other defects, if the defects listed on the yellow fine paper are cleared and fixed you will be pretty much alright. Thats what happened to me, fixed the problems that they defected me for went over the pits, they cleared the defects and on my merry way again.

Do it once then its cleared or i believe your just asking for trouble later down the track.

plus they give you 30 days to clear the defect usually. oh dont forget the $88.00 booking fee for the transport place.

But the point is they MIGHT do their job properly and fully inspect the car. Can't guarantee they'll only look at the fine as they're supposed to check the entire car over. So glad I didn't get sent to pits when I got defected. I just had to clear them with a police officer. Just goes to show how qld police just make shit up as they go hey.

hey mate ive been there once myself too .. as they said my car was too low which it wasnt 110mm from lowest point , mainly tho for not having a box for my pod. The guys there dont look at anything else just talk to them as my side skirts arent GTT items they are GTR ones lowest point came to a tear drop shape from which they concluded it was lower then 100mm once they measured that came to be 110mm , as for the box well i copped a 70 fine and 1 point , for which they cant get me now , putting bigger wheels isnt a defect as long as you keep ur rolling stock height the same as your stock, ive got 20's on mine i can easily go 22's with 25 profile tyres and keep it legal ..

all that is written on my fine is "car is too low 60mm at lowest point being the exhaust" and minor defect box is ticked

so i have to pay $88 to book an apointment with them?

Hey Man get the height fixed as you will only be up for more money if u de-rego and re-rego

plus any probs the RWC cost you also if there is any repairs there too then another RWC to get it finally cleared

dont be so chicken of the pits

Dont be silly when you talk to them and thank them for checking over your car

Be nice it does not cost you anything to be nice

I find the guys at the pits to be a lot easier than the mechanics that do RWC certificates. I have never had a problem with the guys at the pits. Just make sure the height is right before you take the car their.

As said above, don't hassle them or arrive with an attitude, speak to them nice and it will be all good   .

to re-reg the car is like $21.05 admin fee.. and a road worthy is like $60.00.. thats cheaper then the $88.00 for pits.. but yeah i'd get it looked at.. the road worthy mechanic will just deny that it's a dodgy rwc and claim it was done after he signed a rwc.. so he will be in the clear.. but still could cause probs for you down the track..

and as far as i've been told you are aloud 2 inchs about standard wheel size.. as that is what compliance/aust standards are tested for.. so yeah if stock is 16's then max you can go is 18's.. i knew this mainly cuase i had 19's on my vt and stock is 16's.. and yeah they all said illegal as soon as i told em.. so just be careful onj the rules.. just ring pits or qld transport to confirm.. any mechanic should know as a mechanic was the first to tell me that 19's are illegal on my car

being nice and polite is the best way to handle a situation when they hold all the cards.. they have a job to do and arent picking on you.. "if" they "overlook" something then it is on your behalf that they are letting you off..

i have never herd of going to the pits before for a defect. ive been defected 3 times (in my other 2 cars, never been pulled up in the line) in my prelude it was for bald tires, window tint too dark and metal protruding from the front of the car not protected with grille, and got stopped by the same cop same place 2weeks later and got done again for the window tint, and in my lancer i got done for having a false plate on the car (one of those novelty ones) and blue sidelights and stickers on the widscreen, was only fined never asked to get it checked that it was fixed. are the pits only for mechanical defects? or what??
