Mild Steel Painting

Recently i've got some of my exhaust done and it was coated in a factory type of paint, i didnt like the colour so i tryed some high temp paint that i had at home, after a week or so it all started to peel and fall off now it looks like shit, there is also abit of rust starting to form just on the sruface.

Now what should i do before i paint it again with some specific paint for it which i know will work. Should i lightly sand it down and then paint it? Any suggestions, recommendations are very welcome.

Well, I wasn't sure you could get a paint with a high enough temp resistance..... The ceramic coating looks the best. Or you could fibreglass wrap it.....

i found a high temp paint that should do the job but i'm not sure how to prep the area...

Also if i do fibreglass it i will have to prep it anyways so it dosent rust to pieces.

ahh ok, well if I were you, I would buy a metall buffing wheel for your angle grinder or drill (the angle grinder is faster and better) that will lift any scabs that are left on the surface.

redlineGTR use a wire brush or a disk sander to clean it off if its to much work use acid ( the exhaust will be off the car ) .

u can get hi temp paint but its expensive !! like $50 for 1/2 a litre ( thats all u 'll need ) if u have a spay gun spray it on if u dont u can buy it in aerosol can but more expensive .

hi heat paint will last a long time if u clean the metal well first .

yep thanks for the advice my plan exactly. Now hopefully i get some time when i can do it. Oh well.
