How Do You Know If Your Ignitor Module Has Had It?

as topic says, how do you tell if your ignitor module is stuffed??

No/poor ignition/spark

Similar to coil packs. Also can be ok when cold, and more pronounced when warm etc

when the car cuts out, i try to rev but nothing happens. feels like a mad misfire, does this sound like the problem of the ignitor module?

car would then die.

wont be able to start until a few minutes later, it would stay alive without having to give it gas.

for me it was a nasty missfire around 4k as it came on boost.

Sounds like it.

If you get some freeze spray from an electronics store, spray very liberally over when the car dies to cool the box right down

And it should start up right away.

Its usually heat that gets them, so the ole freeze spray is a good test that ive done in the past

Just check your trouble codes first, a dying cas can display almost the exact same symptoms

done a ecu test for eccs fault codes and it came up with 34, 54 & 55.

cheers for the headsup on the freeze spray ill try that, if that works then ill just replace the whole thing.

replaced my ignitor today and still no go

im checking them tomorrow ...

if they seem fine im just gonna drop it off at the mechanics and let them decide..

problem is that it only happens intermittently

after i replaced the ignitor, it was fine all day until around 8pm tonight it started playing up again.

if i check the coils im pretty sure it will seem fine until it actually starts to cut out.

I'd go over the entire ignition system

cleaning EVERY plug with contact cleaner etc and removing any build up.

Then start chasing things like coil packs, CAS, and so on.

gonna rip out the coils and clean them.

checked coil packs and they're working fine..

i had a look at all the ignition side plugs and they all same fine.. no build up of dirt/grime etc.

Did you take a close look at the coil packs for hairline cracks?

This may not even be a ignition problem. Hard to say without witnessing the problem first hand. Intermittant faults are tough to diagnose so good luck with it mate

yeap had a look at the coils..

they all "seem" fine..

gonna get a smoke vacuum test done at revrite performance in silverwater.

might be a easy vacuum leak problem.. well lets hope it is
