You guys are funny! if you wanna do something with your exhaust manifolds, port out the stocks. they wont crack in 12 months time like stainless. Do it now while your turbos are off.

arep3,

second on that!

For better response besides changing the manifold, grind off the bulging / hump part of the cylinder head. Port and polish it. Port match the ex manifold to the cylinder head.

You will feel the response to be much better after doing this.

do you actually read hpi? find me one car, or one add for neons.

its a magazine, im not taking what they say as gospel, but its more believable then alot of other bullshit that gets posted on here...

No I don't buy or read it. I'm sure it's a good magazine. I am being an idiot :P

finally we can agree on something.

anyway, if you guys are referring to the magazine article when you say it needs to be tuned, the car already had the extra bits, it was tuned with the PFC to make the 306kw, then they pulled the parts off and ran it again, dont know what was done tuning wise before replacing with stock parts

Read the article this arvo, I don't believe the cars initial tune made the most of the upgraded components, not saying it wasn't tuned tho.

Oddly tho they said they put the stock gtr exhaust, I was always under the assumption that this was quite restrictive for 300 odd Kw application, and often one of the first mods worthwhile on any car :P

They also said 'peak power' barely change, but mods like cams aren't always aimed at peak power, often mid range or low end improvement is what people are after.

But overall I would agree that manifolds on the GTR only need replacing in high HP setups, often after more crucial components have been sorted first.

Guys if you wanna do your exhaust manifolds, look up / Google power porting or extrude honing. Power porting is Aussie! Extrude Honing is American technology... You can guess which 1 ill be getting done.

dont upgrade parts on your gtr, it will go faster. r31nismoid said so.

unfortunately for you spillmer he's 100% correct :P

this time

extrude honing the stockers will keep heat in the gas path due to the thick walled construction of the cast items. Ceramic coating them in the proper 'High temp black' (not the fancy chrome crap) is something that will help too.

We have actually had to do this several times.....The results are heart-breaking.....

Examples

360kw HKS 2530 equipped GTR- Remove stainless hks manifolds because they were cracked and replace with stock items. - Result: Identical dynograph and power

375kw Garrett -5 equipped GTR - Remove standard manifold and dumps, replace with Tomei items. - Result: Absolutely identical dynograph and power.

These examples are great because the ONLY change was the items mentioned nothing else.

The tunes were also subsequently tickled but showed the same results.

Surely it can't be....they look sooo nice. :D

heart breaking...and knuckle breaking...i did this job twice on the weekend. Put balance pipe manifolds on my car Ben...it seems to have softened it up a little. see thread http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ba...-R-t218709.html will be dynoing it friday too see what just that change has done.

See? Benno says stock manifolds are good.
