Tapping Noise On Start Up

Just got my gtr on the road again and every time I start it up in the morning I get a tapping sound from the engine for about 5 seconds, then it goes away. Only happens on the first start-up of the day, none after that. The engine was rebuilt with forgies and the head was overhauled and JUN bronze guides installed.

Any ideas what it could be?

maybe its piston slap? Forgies have a tendency to do this don't they?

Pistons are tomei with 2 thou piston to bore clearance so doubt it...

GTRs run solid lifters. Get a mate.family member to fire it uo in the morning and see if its coming from the top end...if so i dare say its just the lifters.

Exactly, solid lifters, so they dont require oil pressure to stop the tapping.

i lol'd quite abit at that. if this was an rb25 i wouldnt tho lol

to put in my 2c it could quite possibly be ur motor on first start up with no oil pressure like the knock u hear wen u start it afta changing the oil if it sounds simliar well yeh i guess its just the dreeded no oil pressure cold start..

Maybe.... it goes away at the same rate the oilpreasure guage rises.... JUst the first few seconds you hear this tap tap tap.... Random starting during the day is fine, only does it on the very first start of the day....
