Does anyone know what symptoms reflect the need for new spark plugs in a gtr33,is it detrimental to wear them out till they tell you they are stuffed or should you beat them to it,and which type should I run copper or iridium? I read somewhere that performance is the same just longevity differs,is that right??Grey Pearl.

Ideally you would replace them regularly before there are problems. ie 100000klm for iridiums or 5000klm for coppers.

Both will perform fine, copper is cheaper (even over 100000klm) but need to be replaced much more often.

Duncan to the rescue again, thanks mate,I think I will get the iridium ones as it seems set and forget ,or do they need re-gapping every so many thousand kms, obviously if you have to re-gap them at the same kms you need to replace copper ones you might as well use copper and have new plugs each time,my main concern is wearing out the threads in the aluminium head with too many changes going on ,what special tool will I need to get them out,and is there anything else I should know before doing the job.Cheers Grey Pearl. I obviously spend too much time on the interweb this weekend  Anyway, the only thing to watch out for with Iridiums is you can't regap them - so make sure the gap is right. If you regap them yourself you will probably damage or destroy the iridium coating on the plug.

Cheers mate, Good tip,one wonders how big the gap would be by 100,000 kms though, anyone got the answers to my other questions??.Grey Pearl.
nfi....I always break my motors within 10,000klm...and run coppers anyway :P

gap shouldnt change over time, should it?

Hope you were being facitious with that last comment,as everyone knows that the spark wears away the electrode and makes the gap bigger,on normal plugs anyway, don't know how long the iridium coating lasts though, which part of the iridium tip is coated and which isn't.Grey Pearl.

Hey fellas,

Just wondering, (if this is wrong place to ask - direct me please).

My RB26 isn't starting anymore. Everything seems perfect, i checked, oil, fuel, even went out and purchased new fuel.

The car sounds like its starting but it just doesn't fire and just doesn't start.

I have no idea what it could be, but i'm guessing with no reasons, that it could be the spark plugs.

I dont have much information about spark plugs, and from reading above comments, no idea about gap etc.

What do you guys reckon and what should i do?

Once, again if this is wrong, re-direct.

Thanks :)

Your better off just getting some cheap copper ones as the iridium ones never seem to last as long as they say they do. I have used them before and they have been rooted after only 10- 20,000kms so i doubt very much you could get them to last the supposed 100,000k's they say they are suppose to. The ones i was getting ere gapped to 0.9 and i couldn't re-gap them as Duncan said it damages or destroys the iridium coating on the plug. For a lot of money its just not worth getting the iridiums in my opinion.

Just get the cheap copper ones and change them every 5000 when you give her a service. I have done this with all 3 of my skylines and never had any problems with the threads in the head. Just dont over tighten it and to get them in out you will just need a deep socket the right size of the spark plug.

Easy as.

    • Hey everyone!!  I've noticed that whenever I do my oil changes, after putting 4L in, the oil level sits at the top mark in the dipstick. This is after letting the old oil drain for a very long time too! I've checked the oil level daily for the past few mornings. It happens every time and it's confusing because all the threads say that it should take about 4.7L (With some just adding the full 5L) My next thought is to figure out if the dipstick I have is correct so could someone please tell me the length of the RB25DET engine oil dipstick?  I've checked images of some of the genuine dipsticks, but none of them have the length in it. https://justjap.com/products/genuine-nissan-engine-oil-level-dipstick-fits-nissan-r34-skyline-c34-stagea-c35-laurel-y34-cedric-gloria-rb25de-t-neo?currency=AUD&srsltid=AfmBOortQXofgmiHVRKuIaiKuygL4k0Ewp68c3isGZk0vvKOJ7Yqf3iB However.... the engraving on the genuine ones say 05002 while mine says AA000. This makes me believe that maybe I have a wrong dipstick? I just want to confirm before I buy a new one. The car is a fresh import from Japan so I don't have details of the previous owner to ask him. Thanks in advance 🙏🏾
