u've entered the world of fun,

speak to a place like turbo tune if you wanna kno how to get power out of a 20

they made a 450rwkw RB20 with stock internals and ebay parts. yes EBAY

the car made repedative 450kw dyno runs, over 50 i think it was and still going strong.

but have minimum 4 grand to spend.

new 25/30-$2000+

fuel pump- $300

injectors- $700+

tune- $500+

plus extra cost that occur along the way. and alot of ppl can vouch there will be alot of them.

smells like bullshit in here.

sorry but i just cannot beleive these figures, especially on stock internals and chinese copy parts. 50+ dyno runs?

RB20 hasn't been seen past 300rwkw.. and that's WITH forged internals, head work and quality parts.

please post some proof.

Roy, get your ass in here!

Sounds good, that's what we're after.

Sounds exciting, how much are you asking?

I'd probably be looking to budget aroud 2 -3k depending which turbo ect but I will also be looking into the budget options like 25 turbo and saving my cash for another car or RB30 conversion.

I'm pretty sure my mate is willing to spend more than I am so I gues 3 - 5k maybe.

mmmmm, might need your mates budget for my motor, haha!

For complete motor with everything to the afm including modified engine mounts power fc etc so it'll basically bolt straight in your car.

If you gave me your motor, power fc and gearbox for my motor, power fc and gearbox i'd want $7500 cash or $5000 if you wanted to keep your rb20 gearbox, not recommended though.

Engine Mods:

fully rebuilt rb30 (7000kms since build)

rb25de head with custom reground GTR cams, Adjustable cam gears, GTR valve springs and a general freshen up (as above)

Rb25 gearbox, triple plate os gieken clutch and modified tailshaft

GTR injector's (cleaned and flow tested), Nismo FPR

GT35/40 (1.06 e/h), Z32 AFM

Apexi AP Engineering Power FC with hand controller (tuned)

Currently has 255rwkw's @ 14psi, all it needs is bigger injectors and boost controller and you'd see over 300rwkw's easily.

Basically 2 years ago i was in the exact same position as you and i weighed up all the options (modifying the rb20, putting a 25 or 26 in or building up a 30)

I have no regrets what so ever in going the RB30 twin cam, its a great street motor with the torque (even with the fairly big turbo i have).

With the $7500 i'm asking, if you spent that on your RB20 you'd probably push the 250 rwkw mark but the driveability would be poor (that also wouldn't include a rebuild/freshen up) and probably wouldn't include tuning either, i find there's so many hidden costs when modifying cars you don't budget for.

And before you ask the only reason i'm looking to sell is because my car is lucky to be driven once a month due to my company car and if i were to sell the car with the motor in it i'd never get what i deserve!

well actually it was only 370odd rwkw, it was done as a piss take between mates at turbotune, using a s14 shell, an rb20det and all bits and pieces laying around...wasn't meant to last, was built for a laugh and with intentions to watch it explode. By no means would they ever do that to a customers car. Relax.

If I had that money on me right now and no house to pay for I'd be considering it. Like people have said though if I was going to be spending that sort of money I could be looking at an R34 lol. Still, RB30 would be fun!

sorry my bad, was a bit off on the kw figure, but it did manage consecutive dyno runs pulling the same power give or take a few.

ring em if ya dont beleive me.

but big dollars in this game

so start with a hi flowing exhaust and splitfire coil packs and go from there

Done. I've got a rough idea of what are the good routes to go thanks to the RB20 thread ect but I'm just not really sure on how to put this into a real world situation as I've only really been in my car, a few stock GTSTs and V8s.

you cant use V8's as comparison and you will probably get slapped for saying that around here lol (i would slap you haha)

but yeh well if you have done that i got an external gate turbo perfect for wat you want.

It is a Blitz KKK K2664, external gate but with a bolt on adapter so you can use the standard manifold.(let me know)

But yeh well if you have done that Fuel system is ur next step.

to make power you have to supply the fuel and with standard fuel system it is impossible

get onto REVS and get 6 FC3s injectors (they are 550cc for those that didnt kno) and then a GTR fuel pump and if you touch the fuel reg u get another little slap, because that only needs changing over 250 kw

but once you have done that pm me and i can help you with the turbo.

TheProDaniel,

In a month I'll have a set of cams and boost controller in mine; it should be making around 200rwkwish at 3500rpm and 240-250rwkw at 4000rpm going on to ~300rwkw at ~6500rpm.

I'll take you for a little squirt; but in all honesty a well sorted rb25 with cams can provide awesome mid range with a well selected turbo.

Personally I think simonr32's setup is now very nice. Sure the rb30 mid range and off idle is super nice but it really depends how far your willing to go.

As it is now mine has more off idle acceleration than my uncles Manual VX Clubby. Both at idle; simply let the clutch out and accelerate. The V8's unless paired with an auto and stally really are not that crash hot off the line due to long gearing.

370 sounds a bit more reasonable if it was pushed to it's absolute limit. would like to know how long it lasted haha.

hey cubes im the other guy friends with the 'theprodaniel' im still undecided bout which way to go for money reasons. Really dont want to spend over 5k coz of other commitments. I may have to take my box out ne way due to a slight leak which looks to be rear mains so tossing up doing the conversion. Mines more of a hills/ weekend car.

I'm not, that's the whole reason I want to go in something else so I can get an idea lol.

That'd be great Cubes, just what I'm after. Keep me posted.

A 25 does seem to be the best option really especially for the money. Any idea what it takes to get the conversion legal here in SA?

being a hills/weekend car you want to aim for response and not so much in power. Nothing worse than seeing a ke70 disappear in the distance when your driving a lag box. go with wht a few people said the 2530.

the whole beauty of modifying a car is going through the stages! if you feel you need more power then do the things you need to! some people stop at 200 atw, some at 300 and even 500! can't really know how much power you want until you feel happy about how the car goes

my opinion anyway

R33 front brakes. stock ecu, quiet exhaust, good bushes.

That's pretty easy, I've already got a quiet exhaust and good bushes. Would you take it to engineer or just put it through regency? Anyone done it before and be able to say approx how much it cost (not the conversion)?

    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
