Hey,

Trying to plan my sound system and was wondering which subwoofer system would sound louder/better.\

Is it better to buy 2 cheap subs or 1 quality sub?

It will be installed into a r32 gtst boot, so there is a fair bit of empty space. Although one sub would be ideal as it will be lighter and easier to pull out on track days etc.

They will be powered by a;

Clarion DPX1851

http://clarion.com/au/en/products/2008/aud...2395789141.html

* 850 Watts of Maximum Music Power

* 850W x 1 into 2 Ohms, @ 1.0% THD

* 460W x 1 into 4 Ohms, @ 1.0% THD

My options are;

1. Two 12" SINGLE 4-OHM VOICE COIL SUBWOOFER

http://clarion.com/au/en/products/2008/aud...2391746255.html

* 800 Watts Maximum Music Power

* 400 Watts RMS

169.00 RRP each = $338

Will give a load of 2ohms to the amp

2. One 12" DUAL 4-OHM VOICE COIL SUBWOOFER

http://clarion.com/au/en/products/2008/aud...2391746711.html

* 1000 Watts of Maximum Music Power

* 500 Watts RMS

549.00 AUD

Will give a load of 2ohms to the amp

Thanks

i dont know a great deal about audio, but i think u kinda answered your own question, 1 is easier to remove and as u said will be better qualilty, id go quality over quantity, so id say go for 1,

ey new on this site planning on getting a R33 gts (non turbo :-( P-plates) i work for a car audio dealer and to be honest it doesnt matter if its a dual voice coil or single it depends on your amps and 2 subs or one sub doesnt matter once again it depends on amps u have running

The other thing to consider is your amp and its control at different ohm loadings.

Most Amps are made for 4 ohm loads, by loading them up to 2 ohm or more the amp effectively works harder and produces more power.

But, that power is less controlled and the sound quality can suffer.

If you want two subs, you'd be better off getting 1 amp per sub.

Just remember the basics when buying an amp.

What RMS is the SUB?

Your amp should at least be this + 20%

What impedence (ohm) is the sub

Your amp should be able to hold this load and not suffer increased distortion.

One is enough Pat, I had 2 x CLARION 12" running of a half decent CLARION monoblock and I couldn't hear shit, everything was just shaking

A decent 12" something good like a JL or ALPINE will be perfect. Also depends on the type of music you listen to but generally a 12" suits majority

sorry to hijack, but ive just got a Jaycar Response 2*150W amp

the specs are as follows

Power / channel @ 4ohm 14.4V: 150WRMS x 2

Power / channel @ 2ohm 14.4V: 255WRMS x 2

Power / bridged @ 4ohm 14.4V: 500WRMS x 1

im looking at getting a Pioneer 12" DVC sub (TW-W307D2 or D4) http://www.pioneer.com.au/Products/Car%20E...S%20W307D2.aspx

what sub would be better and how would i wire it up - the D2 is dual 2 ohm coils and the D4 is dual 4 ohms coils - i was thinking 4 ohm bridged to get 500wrms out of it - so how would i wire the coils up to the amp

the pioneer website doesnt actually say what rms the subs are at just 1200w max, so im assuming about 300wrms

im not after big big bass, just something to give a bit of kick

    • It only looks tidy, as most of the stuff that was on the whole back wall, is now in the trailer to go to the tip, or has been shoved in my 2.2x2.4m "Spare parts room", and now I can't get to anything in there Ha ha ha I could definitely do with a bit more space, but I'd just end up with your problems I'm going to enclose the car port beside the garage, and move a lot of stuff into it I think. OR... It will be setup as a fabrication area, and the main garage will have parts storage in it. I'm not sure yet... Need some pictures of that big shed you've got with the bikes and Skyline in
    • No. I think it's gone. 😭 I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.
    • Can't say I've had a bad experience with one on my car, then again it only gets washed once or twice a year... The wheels on the other hand, get a good spray often due to my shitty dusty pads.
    • @MBS206 thats pretty neat and tidy to me!  I'll get a photo of mine when I'm out there next. It might require multiple photos to understand the scale of the atrocities though... In total I have 4 sheds of varying sizes and layouts. Main shed is 14x8, second shed is 3x8, third shed is 11x2.5, fourth shed is around 6x4.  All are pretty much full.   The main goal of my cleaning tsunami is to make the main shed predominantly car and motorbikes only. Second shed is my metal fab room (2 x bench grinders, drill press, bench belt sander, metal band saw, scrap metal storage and some of my garden tools.  3rd shed is more bigger garden stuff, storage for engine crane, jack stands, concrete grinder, concrete mixer, air compressor lives there, and it now has two 2mx2m pallet racking shelves with itemised boxes holding building stuff, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, etc, etc.  The 4th shed is Ryobi electric ride on mower, mini boom sprayer, ancient Kubota tractor, more garden stuff!  I have got a lot of shit....  Then there's the pool house (8mx4m) and the pool pump shed (4mx4m).  I built all of the sheds over the 11 years we've been here.  The main shed was a Ranbuild kit, the rest are all custom made to fit the areas available. Building the main shed taught me a LOT as I had no idea about building anything prior to that!  I've still got one more in me. It will be my man cave which I poured the extra concrete for way back when I poured the concrete for the main shed. The idea is the Skyline will be a centre piece of the main cave once (if...) it's finished.  I told my now 14 year old son yesterday that I will 100% drive him to his year 10 formal in 2 years. Still a long way off but at least I now have a date to work towards! 🤣
    • Modern oils are amazing. Add tyres to that as well.
