PRO Power FC or Power FC

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Im buying a new Power FC from Japan and on offer is the PRO Power FC and the Power FC the difference is about £40.

Only thing is no-one knows the difference apart from its used for racing, this doe'snt really tell me whats different about it.

Does anyone know what extra functions it has and will they ever be of any use? or is it no good to be as I'm not going to race it!

I know you have to use the boost controller on the PRO version, but is an option to activate on the standard one.

Can anyone help me because the moneys burning a hole in my pocket, and am already looking at a bulk order of ice lollys.

The pro, in conjunction with the boost controller , is supposed to allow a sort of anti lag style launch control.

Am waiting for my mate to translate the bloody jap instructions that came with mine, then I will tell you more.

Hi Ken

This is the thing that keeps coming up, looks like you can build up more boost on a launch, back tyres will last even fewer miles!

But is it as good for general driving can you set it to run on a mildly tuned setting or even standard as this car is not used for racing.

Have you had it mapped, was it the same mapping procedure and set up with the same laptop software, I dont want to get it to the UK and find I cant get it mapped yet. Thanks for the info.

PS Ken, Any chance of a copy of the translation?

Don't know as haven't installed yet

If you can get it mapped , then your doing better than us in WA.

Some one is getting laptop software but at the moment , it's all handcontroller only

The blokes name is Brent Richards, he's a Aussie living in Japan, his web site is www.nengun.siteblast.com you can make big savings on the UK retail prices, anyway check his sit out.

Depends on how much it's gonna cost me from the translator

Ken

The main difference is that the PRO uses map sensor instead of mass airflow meters. This means you can get rid of those afm's restricting flow, and supposedly the computer will hadle the fact that you have six throttle bodies unlike other map sensored computers. I think this is right this is what i have been told anyway hope it helps:)

So does this mean you have to get rid of your afm or will it run with or without, does your car still have its afm's inline Ken? Let me know about that translation.

Calv

No, as far as I know you have the option but using MAP with the 6 throttle bodies can , I've been told , cause some drivability issues.Translation is about 40 pages so is gonna take some time.

Ken

They use the PRO on the apexi drag cars and apexi recommend it for competition use if you are goin to use it in map sensor mode as ken says although they wont say it the map sensor still has trouble controlling individual throttle bodies. Calv you can get rid of it or you can choose to kepp them depends on the mode you run, if you do run map yes you can vent to atmosphere with blow off valve and there are no probs!!

There is an interesting thing in the latest ZOOM, saying that the Power FC up until now required AFMs, but there is now a 400 AUD option that can eliminate the AFM's.

It's in the section on comparing different ECU's. No comparisson on the Power FC Vs Power FC pro.

From what I've been told, the tuning of the Pro version can take a lot more time as there is no base map.

Can anyone confirm?

So you get no base maps? if you have to set them up from scratch and if you cant load a standard PFC map on its sounds like its going to get expensive!

Unless you are going to get a lot more power without the AFM's it sounds like the standard PFC will be the most suitable, especially if there are drivability problems anyway.

More boost on launch will probally cause traction problems as well with mine being rear wheel drive.

What do you people think?
