Sup!

I don't want to put this in the audio section cause for the last hour I've been reading through a lot of responses, most of them being 'get 6.5 inch speakers' or 'get a sub u n00b'... Fact is, I got these 6x9's for my old VL, however between loosing my license and then selling the VL I never got aorund to putting them in... Now I've been trying all afternoon and I've come to some troubling aspects of the installation... I'm not cutting metal, my friend reckons the only way is to either drill through the metal or just bolt/screw the speakers and spacers onto the parcel shelf, neither which I'm keen on because unless I'm mistaken, the first option can/may/will affect the integirty of the rear shelf, the second would be unsafe in the event of an accident, and as far as I can tell, both would probably be illegal...

We've got as far as the rear seats are out, the side top panel thingys are out, rear parcel shelf is out and the stock covers and speakers are out...

Does anyone here work in audio and live in Perth???

Please, honestly, I don't want to hear 'shoulda bought this' or 'I should done that'... Not to bust ya bubble, I've got these speakers, and I've seen 6x9's in R32's, R33's and R34's... Just need some help to get over the line, and do it safely and legally...

Thanks all!

Mark.

Any chance for a pic mate???

place the spacer where you want it to sit..

mark it

and drill holes into the metal

screw in the spacer..then speaker

doof doof

Problem is, can't get the drill into the last/rear most holes.. Rear window is in the way...

can you drill from the boot up?

my mates R33 had to open the boot.. and drill up into the metal

then when done..screw in from the top.. if you get what i mean..

should work

Isn't drilling upwards a bit hit and miss???

btw, is drilling it illegal??

@ Mike..

Eh? What's that your on about mate??

I agree with what Karl says. As soon as I read this post, thats the first thing that popped into my head. Make basically a copy of your parcel shelf out of MDF and fit that. It will be like a giant spacer and allow the bottom of the speakers to stick through the current holes. Shouldn't be too hard :P

If you want help, I may be able to spare a weekend. I have a bandsaw as well as many, MANY other tools at home that will get the job done :spank:

GUYS HE DOESNT WANT TO DRILL THE METAL!!!!!!!!

Marko, My car has the same thing as Karls, I'll take a pic of it if I remember tomorrow. Its got the stock parcel shelf that has been cut slightly to allow the 6x9s to come through, with a thick piece of MDF on top in the shape of the stock parcel shelf. The 6x9s are bolted to that, go through the stock one, and the magnets poke through the stock holes. I didnt even know it was there til I took it out to get to my suspension!

If you want to come around to have a look, your more then welcome. My doors always open.

Btw, why do you want 6x9s anyway? They're shit! I'll buy ur 6x9s off you, I need some new ones, and I cbf installing anything decent in there cos i'm selling it soon.

Otherwise, do what happened in my car

Well this weekend is out :spank:

Have you got the parcal shelf out? Is that what you said? Bring it on saturday. We'll go to mine after and have a look. Won't be able to finish it, probably won't really get much done, but we can get an idea how thick the mdf has to be and maybe draw out a pattern etc. :P

Actually, dont use a Sub. Too much weight, it'll slow you down in those events you want to do. if you arent a audiophile (like me :spank:) then stick with the 6x9s. BTW, the more tweeters they add doesnt improve the sound. Thats y the top of the range 6x9s only have 2 ways... Get me?
