hi

sounds similar to what mine does. There is a screw behind the tacho that has a split washer that became loose on mine and caused it to do the same thing.

tightening up the screw should fix the problem, maybe a dash of loctite or a new split washer could help also.

Yup my old cluster would do exactly the same thing between like 3000 and 4500 rpm it would go ape shite. It is the tacho it's self coz i just chucked in a new cluster and it hasn't failed once. My old cluster has since been tested in another car and it played up. One day when i'm bored i'll actaully attack the old cluster and see if I can get a definite answer on whats wrong. If I can fix it I might even sell it instead of having a museum of old skyline parts :D

Cheers

    • Does the steering feel heavy when you turn the wheels? Any puddles of fluid on the floor or that you can see leaking from anywhere? You could try bleeding the system, if it’s making a whining sound when turning the wheels then that’s a sure indication there’s air in there somewhere. Start the car and remove the reservoir cap, then turn the wheels from left to right a few cycles and then check if you see any air bubbles rising to the top of the reservoir. Top up if necessary and repeat. Otherwise, I can only suggest that your pump veins have seized or that there is a perished seal somewhere??
    • No idea. It's too weird.
    • The jack holds itself in place. You slip it down into the receptacle and give the input a twist to open it up a little and jam itself in there.
    • I searched , but did not find what I need, I am mainly looking for where the jack fits into bracket in rear left trunk/fender bracket on a GTT and what holds it in place.
