I Have just finished another week of night shift and just can't believe how many stupid, dangerous drivers I came across and just thought I would share with you.

My week in review. Here is what I have come across not even looking for it. I was very busy with other things and these people drove like this in front or past marked police car.

1. Vehicle 60+ Km/h over speed limit and driver drink driving. (Impounded vehicle)

2. Vehicle 40 km/h over speed limit and no p plates.

3. Vehicle 40 km/h over speed limit (pooring down rain on wet roads) Could only get for 40 but I estimated 60km/ over.

4. Vehicle 30 km/h over speed limit, no right turn and driver drink driving.

5. Suspended driver 20 km/h over speed limit, no p plates and four bald tyres.

6. Disqualified driver also drink driving and careless driving.

7. Unlicensed driver in unregistered vehicle.

8. Vehicle 30 km/h over speed limit.

9. Vehicle 30 km/h over speed limit.

With this type of driving going on I can't see how "hoon" legislation is working. I guess I am just lucky that they didn't cause a fatal collision possibly because I stopped them before they did.

All have either been charged or penalty notices taking their licenses away at least making it a bit safer.

To make you happy I will add that NONE were in imports.

I did pull one of our members over who could have technically received a fine but was only warned as they were trying to do right thing. Yes I did pull them over because they were driving a skyline but it did have no rego plate.

Hmm, doesn't sound good, bad drivers are multiplying like bacteria :D

The hoon legislation probably won't work, I think more advanced driving courses for the public so they know what will happen when they actually try and do a 100km/h stop in wet weather.

yea people are getting worse.. i agree!!

especially yesterday in the big rains.. it wasn't a safe drive for me and i had people flying past me. and a fatal crash in croydon/ mooroolbark sent the power off for a while.. there was a poor cop having to direct traffic in the pouring rain.

I used to drive over the westgate and around the ring road every day, over a strecth of about 4 years, I definently agree that drivers are getting worse. The worst is with all the road works on at the moment, at least 50% of people speed through them, and I'd reckon at least 50% of those drivers sit below the limit everywhere else. eg 80km in a 100 zone, 80km in a roadworks 60km zone. Do they think that by averaging it out it makes it safer?

And wet weather is the worst, people freak out and drive like idiots whenever it's wet. Slashing in between lanes without indicating, tailgating, it's all magnified in the wet.

People have got it all backwards.

end rant.

yea i work in road construction and there's a lot of people who just have no idea and it's hard to see how they actually got a license!

people become too complacent and take driving for granted. it is untill they get in an accident or loose their license that they understand its a priveledge to have a license. then there are those as above who just dont learn at all.

thanks buddy for your part in getting these people off the road.

Nice work..

How about booking some of those pricks that seem to think flashing lights are only for x-mass decorations.

Failure to indicate is a very dangerous thing to do and doesn't seem to be adhered to all all by Joe public or policed for that matter.

Is it Indicative of the level of laziness in todays population? not much effort is involved but it seems acceptable for the large majority to either indicate as they turn (not an adequate warning) or just don't do it t all.

Pathetic..

good to see a cop who is REALLY doing their job...

not following a completely stock r31 home to their own driveway because there were "hoon" reports in the whole region of 3074..

or pulling you over for doing nothing at all but driving 10 km under the limit because the car infront was doing 10 under aswell...

Keep at being a propper coppa Graeme

Thanks for sharing and interesting to hear. I am lucky not to have to spend a great deal of time on the roads either commuting or for work but the times that I do, the driving especially on Friday afternoons at times, is suicidal.

damn theres too many idiots out there. people know what happens if they crash but they dont think it will happen to them until it does.

a guy that i know did his license for .185. i picked him up from work the other day and he offered me a can. i had to knock it back 3 times with the reply "im driving" some people dont learn at all...

I can never understand how someone who is already doing the wrong thing.. drink driving, no p plates etc.. then has to draw attention to themselves by speeding.. just begging to be pulled over.. but then again there is no accounting for the stupidity of stupid people!

I can't stand drivers (esp trucks) who do 80 on the freeways (esp in the right lane)... some idiot will end up dangerously tailgating me or almost clipping me in the back as they overtake in the left, caus they get so impatient.. as if I can do anything about the dude doing 80 in front of me!? Ring rd is really bad for that.

It doesn't seem like VIC enforces or sticks to the "keep left unless overtaking" rule.. do you not have that down here??

I know someone like that.. thinks he is a TOPS driver.. esp when he's been drinking, which apparently is quite frequently before driving.. OMG... such a bad/scary driver, Michael will never get in the car with him again after that 1st time.

I'm pretty sure my gambling, alcoholic, a55hole neighbour is a drunk driver too.. and he has 2 small children that he lets climb all through his car and hang out the windows and blah blah. GAH

In reply to what you have said kaz, i sat my medium rigid license on Saturday morning. Before the test i had a 2 hour lesson and during that time i was always told to check my mirrors every 15 secs, look up oncoming side streets before you get to them (for idiots mainly) STAY IN THE LEFT LANE and to try to do the same speed as the other vehicles around me up to the speed limit. Truck drivers are trained to stay in the left lane. they are trained in how to deal with other road users including tailgater's. (and no people, you dont speed up or slam on the brakes.)

The test was the toughest test i've had to do. maybe all car testing should be as hard as truck licenses.

oh and truckies that sit in the right lane doing 80 should be made to resit their licenses.

I was taught all of that as part of my car test, in the UK. Defensive driving and keeping left etc which should be enforced far more in car training/testing.
