Will i be able to fit hub centric wheel spacers on my r33 gtr without losing handling performance?? also will the atessa system like it if i were to have different size spacers front and rear, ie 15mm front, 25mm rear as an example?

Is it worth doing, anyone else doing it without problems?

I haven't personally driven a car with and without spacers, but the attessa system should be fine. As long as your rolling diameter is the same (which it will be when you put on spacers), your car will run fine.

Is it worth doing? Well it depends on what and how the wheels sit now. If adding them will make the wheels rub on the guards then no, it wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

Rolling diameter as in the rolling size of your tyres and wheels together, as long as they're the same all round on your car, it should be fine. Adding spacers only increases track, nothing to do with the rolling diameter. So it won't affect the attessa.

spacers are a tricky one, ive run them before, both hubcentric and non-hubcentric, its funny because people get all hyped up about spacers not being hubcentric, then they go ahead and put aftermarket wheels on their car with larger centre bores and no hubcentric ring, affectively creating the same issue they talk about. this used to catch me out :teehee:

but that aside, its not the handling id be worried about, it is the safety issue, i personally havnt had any issues, but i have seen big failures, it's usually due to misuse, people not torquing the nuts to secure the spacers right etc. Personally i think that if you torque up all the nuts correctly and use loctite on the nuts for the spacers, use hubcentric spacers with hubcentric rings for aftermarket wheels, you should be alright. saying that, they are illegal.

Thanks everyone, i'm about to buy some hub centric spacers, but need to make sure they are going to work, basically i have 18" volk racing te37 alloys and need to make sure the hub centric centre ring will fit up to my wheels when i put on the spacer???.....

Also when you say to locktite the wheel spacers, i'm guessing this is for the spacer to the original hub nuts, and not the spacer to wheelnuts????

....im thinking of getting 20mm wheel spacers (the ones you can get from justjap), will this be fine and not affect handling on my gtr???

What offset are your wheels? I'm guessing you have 18x9.5" +12 right? If so you shouldn't need spacers they should pretty much fill the guards.

20mm won't clear your stock studs completely. But the TE37 may have enough room where they bolt up to clear them. But i think 20mm on a 18x9.5" +12 will make the wheels stick way out. Check with an offset calculator (google).

for 15mm spacers and aftermarket volk wheels, would it be wise to keep my non-hubcentric 15mm bolt on spacers with extended studs coming out from it, or buy hub centric with ring 15mm spacers form justjap and sell my current?

I dont wnt to feel i just wasted money on my non hub centric ones, but if its safety ill sell and buy the hubcentrics.....

As said above. The hubcentric thing really only makes a difference if it flows all the way through to your wheel. While it's nice to have the hub centric thing, it's not 100% necessary.

Try your mates 15mm ones. I think your wheels are still going to sit to far out. My calcs say you only have about 5mm, 10mm max to play with before you start rubbing at the rear. Even with rolled guards. Also depends on what size tyres you're running. If you're running 265's or larger there then you are going to be rubbing big time.

Thanks, i will be testing my wheels with spacers today, Ferni....in your honest opinion, do you think i need hubcentric spacers for my te37's???....and also, i run some pretty aggressive camber -2 all round, which may be why i can get more clearance from wheel to guard????

Thanks mate - so not worry too much about whether or not they are hubcentric etc....but more the quality of the bolt on spacers...cause mine look extremely high quality, they come with nuts for the studs already, are these the nuts you use to bolt the spacer to the hubs, then use your own custom lugs for the studs off of the spaceR?

Quite a few questions.....

1) the thread-size hole for the spacers to slide onto the hub itself has a bit of play, meaning the whole spacer has a bit of play all round when its on the hub......is this normal???, i made sure it was spot on before tightening up the spacer to the hub, i put my hand around the hub to make sure the spacer was flush...is this something that everyone has to do???.....

2) how tight should the nuts be that hold the spacer to the hub?and is loctite essential when doing this?

3) im assuming the nuts from wheel to spacer studs can be same as before?

Yes this is normal, if the tolerance is way too big (as on cheapies) they will sit off centre and vibrate so no amount of balancing can fix it

Not necessarily, check the pitch of each thread o/wise you may find yourself rethreading the studs

Re: first post, I took my wheel spacers out and the thinner stance made it heaps easier to flick the car s/ways

Just dont use spacer on spacer o/wise the problems in 1st line will be magnified

I wouldnt go anything made of Al billet, must be at least mild steel

    • R12 has not been not available for....decades now. Propane is not a great replacement. (I mean, it's a great replacement, but it is a bit too flammable). R134a being the only way to go forward with an R12 system. The design pressures etc, are close enough to R12's to work. The ability to move heat around is close enough to R12's to work.
    • Out of curiosity, what's the reason for converting? I think @R3N3 might have the Frenchy's kit in the R33? I somehow think of you as the ambassador for realistic and clean street-driven setups nowadays  
    • careful when running the car after a boil over. Ive heard you can lose enough coolant that it won't show the right temps because of too much air in the system (or something like that). Make sure the levels are good before trying again.  Maybe a mobile mechanic can come have a look with their scan tool ?
    • OK, just for some extra clarity - there is more than one option at Frenchy's. 1. You can buy the whole kit - with or without the actual compressor. The whole kit includes mounts, hoses, condensor, etc. That's either ~$2200 or ~$2800. No surgery required with this option. 2. You can buy just the bracket (~$600), or the bracket with the compressor (~$1200). Either of this or the above option "without the compressor" is if you already have an Echo comp or you are able to source one locally. Whatever the case, in this option, you will need surgery done on your hoses to adapt to the new compressor. When I said "the Frenchy's kit", I meant the whole kit in option 1. It is obviously somewhat more $$ than a $1500 OEM compressor. But if I had to spend $1500 on an OEM compressor, I would certainly consider spending double that to renew and significantly update everything forward of the firewall. Another option is to rebuild your original compressor. My R34 comp is currently dead and I will be most likely doing that to it if the spare one in the shed is also leaky.
