BTW I just wanted to clarify something from earlier in the thread.

Choices made during tuning won't give you more responsive motor, or at least there is no compromise to be made between power and response in tuning. The tuner is either making all available power at a given load cell or they are not, the only option is less timing or more fuel which are safety margins - they won't increase response.

Any gain in the response is in the mechanical setup, not the tune.

Smaller turbo

Lighter turbo rotating mass

More capacity

Shorter intake

Smaller Cams

Cam timing

Smaller, shorter exhaust manifold

Free flowing exhaust

Smaller intercooler

Holding wastegate fully shut until it opens

exactly !!!

it's more the way the cams are set, making better use of the air it gets meaning the turbos don't have to working as had

a good quality boost controller doesn't hurt either

what mods have you got done ?, cause yeah that's not great at all, what boost is that ?

cam gears ? if not get some

It has a bosch fuel pump, -5's, came with the car, so i got tomei cam gears, Tomei poncams(gotta confirm which one i'm receiving), Valve springs, ARP head studs and on the hunt for decent priced nismo AFM, then hopefully a good tune at JEM. Hopefully looks better than the last tune.

I got told I was running 18psi cuz he didn't want to go any further incase he blows a head gasket. Not knowing much I just said ok o_0any ideas what might be wrong? Sorry,I have no clue haha

What exhaust have you got ?

If you are after response you want stock cams or type R 250 Poncams and have them dialed in for response, I have settings for most cams, anything bigger in the poncam range will lose you response

-5s on 18psi should be making a lot more then that even on a stock motor providing it can breath

Save your money on the Nismo AFMs and put it towards a good computer that uses map

HKS hi power silent, i want the amuse r1 thats for sale but old man doesn't like a loud car =[, its got a pfc, and it has stock cams in it at the moment. Previous owner had cams listed on ad as well, but wasn't informed what cams i was running, so could it be possible that i might have cams not suited for response or not dialed in for response? but either way, when i get new cams put in, i'll see what my old cams were, see if they were stock or aftermarket.

Thanks for the post Duncan. As for as your list goes, there's a couple of things here I am curious about:

Smaller turbo - I'm assuming -7's are the 'smallest' turbo one can buy, since ceramics go pop at the race track.

Lighter turbo rotating mass - as above

More capacity - It's going to have to make do for now

Smaller Cams - smaller than factory?

Free flowing exhaust - I have sidepipes, not sure about the manifold though

Smaller intercooler - I'm assuming there's no use in going smaller than factory?

Holding wastegate fully shut until it opens - I'm still using standard wastegate. Is there any reason to switch to something else?

Cheers

What front pipe and cat have you got ?

Can you contact the old owner and see if you can find out what cams are in it, I know if I got some cams in then payed a workshop to change and found out I put in exactly what I pulled out I'd be pissed, and that is a clean and clear waste of money

This....i hate hearing "i tuned it for response bro, not top end".... makes me want to slap people.

The funny thing is the owner i bought it off bought it off another guy who said he had done it all at Croydon race dev, so the owner i bought it off has no clue lol, so what im thinking is when i come to installing my new parts, and the old parts come out, i'm going to make a record of what comes out =\ as for the front pipe, i have to double check what is there, i don't remember what it was when it was inspected by mechanic before i bought the car xD not a very good memory =[

Haha yeah right, I say my car was tuned for response and what I mean by it is I have chosen all the parts on my car for response and dialed in the cams to give better low which helps the responsiveness of the turbos, which is a form of tuning

So saying you have turned the cams in a way which promotes more low end twist at the sacrifice of top end power (say it rolls over at 7500 instead of 8500-8800) means nothing?

That does make helping harder, where are you located

What you might have to do is rip off one of the cam covers and get the part number off the end of the cam cause if their not poncams but full aftermarket then poncams may not be "boltin" any more in which case you may as well go the 260 x 10.8 procam or better yet the unigroup cams

No no no, not talking about anything mechanical. People go in with a car that has boltons and say the ECU was tuned for response....no camgears, cams, etc.

fyp

Lol. Was meant to say 300hp.

I don't see what all the fuss is.

Its proven that 7's with cam gears 20 pound of the boost is responsive and puts out a nice linear power delivery

Or if you don't car about power and just super response then you should have bought something else.
