Hi all,

A few friends and I are on the hunt for locations to take some happy snaps of our rides. Having said that, maybe a thread for locations in and around Melbourne for day\dusk\night shots?

Have found this carpark:

Turn into Little Collins St from King or Williams St and car park on the left before Elizabeth St. Excellent white lighing, excellent grafitti and excellent surroundings being high rise buildings and construction site (at the moment).

Cheers,

James

Very good thread, I've always wanted to know where nice places are for some photos in and around Melbourne. To make it work a little better, maybe post up a location and pics to show how good it really is! :)

I've seen quite a few people take shots under the bridge near docklands. Too bad I don't have any photos or even know how to get there. >_<

Good point Adam. Here are the antics from last night!

The first three are in the car park mentioned in my first post.

The fourth is at Rod Laver Arena - went down the largest entry off Swan St (?). Unfortunately the grassy area that would have been nice was all chained off =(

The last two were in some backs street in Richmond just off Bridge Rd. Can't remember the street name, just stumbled on it.

So... if anyone else can share a sweet spot for some Kodak moment, it would be greatly appreciated. The boys are getting together (SLK 203 Kompressor, Ford XR6 turbo ute any myself) are doing a late night Sunday. Some aimless driving is going to be fun, but having a destination in mind would be good (c:

i dont understand why ppl take there cars up to the "mountains" or on grass paddocks or anything stupid like that. unless you have a tracker or something similar you should be sticking to more modern areas. eg. factories, underground carparks, bridges ect ect.

Better view of the sunrise/sunset, but either way, your car should be the main piece of the photo not the scenery. Who cares... :teehee:

Fair call, but I must admit there are some grassy areas with "ornate" chairs, lighting and other arty stuff that make the picture look nice. Like Rod Laver Arena... damn chained off areas.

Also, going up mountains, and if the picture is taken correctly - you can get some excellent shots of the city lights, sunsets or sunrises.

It is all about the car making the set look good =)

If it is just plonked in the middle of your local park then what was the point of driving your car there??? An adventure play gym?

Anyhow, locations guys + gals, locations! And photos =)

I photographed this Maserati at First Point, Port Melbourne. Its a nice quiet spot in a dead end street.

I'll give away another location... This next shot is at the side of Aviation rd, Point Cook, just near the RAAF Base.

    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
    • I’d love to find some where that can recover the dashes to look brand new and original. Mine has a very slight bubble, nothing compared to some I’ve seen though
    • $170K. I asked one of the guys there as a joke if that price was just for the passenger seat as it was where the price sheet was... he tried really hard to crack a smile 😄 He also mentioned that every single part of the car was inspected and either restored or replaced with a new or as new part, or made from scratch. The interior was incredible, every inch like a new car.
