Hello All

I just want to know what ppl think of this roo cull , I grew up on a farm so I done my fair share of shooting so i just dont see what the big deal is. The thing i notice around Canberra the only animal u see are roos , if u go to a farm where roos are controlled there will be Black Wallabies , Red Wallabies and Wallaroos if there are shitloads of roos there push out these smaller species.

Just what to know if ppl who grew up in Canberra have a different opinion

Agree with you, they are so overpopulated and basically a large rodent. They are marsupials (young born at early stage, develop in pouch) and therefore aren't like most animals which increase their gestation period during droughts to lower competition for what little food there is in the area. Animal rights activists fail to see the other option which is allowing them to live and starve or living and as you said removing smaller species form the area... The kangaroos are just lucky that the culls were so publicised or they would of been like any other cull (less focus on humane treatment, more on eradication)

the spot in belconnen where they are killing them off is a pretty unsafe area too.

since activists have been whinging etc i know of 3 cars that have hit roos along that very stretch of baldwin dr.

they are a pest in areas and as such, all that is being done is pest control for both wildlife and motorists / residents of the area

i too cant see what the fuss is about. the cost of shipping them all to another area would be huge compared to what they are doing now. if your that upset by the culling of a few roos, then move out to the bush and marry one ya god damn hippies!

Who the hell are these Pro Roo ppl anyhow , i have not talked to anybody who disagrees with it , i was thinking it was because my mates are rednecks

They should have got NSW to do the cull , last year when they done the culls at Hall and googong , they used misinformation to trick the hippies , they said this date we are culling at hall then the shooters went to googong , the next weekend they said it was at googong and they went to hall the hippies took the bait hook line and sinker

what i find funny is that people are some how comparing us to the japanese with whale hunting...... um no, whales are low in numbers, and they're fishing in someone elses waters, nor are we harpooning them or allowing the to suffer.

whales have an 11 month gestation period

roos have a 4 week gestation period, and reduce other wildlife's habitat

plus roos are sedated then euthanased. if i was going to die, that would be my first choice.

while i don't agree with culling, the task of perhaps sterilizing or relocating them just isn't going to happen. as money is more important than native wildife to most people.

What I don't get is if they intend relocating them, to where? What idiot wants 500 eastern greys? Answer = nobody!!!

What they should do is microchip the roo's and then give each Pro Roo protester 10 each for their back yard - now that I'd like to see.

my cousin is a massive vegan/activist, so far she is the only person i have met who is against the cull. Her whole argument is:

"Nobody HAS to kill anyone/thing. There is always a different way! In the same way lethal injection is also not necessary.

Human nature largely appears to be to act in a self serving nature. There aren't that many people that realise that they have no more right to happiness than anyone/anything else."

which is just the typical activist statement, no scientific or logical backup, just emotions

My point is why spend $1500-2000 on each kangaroo to move it when you can pay bugger all to get someone in to shoot them. I know which i would rather my tax dollars are spent on.

serious?

how can that sort of expense be justified??- i'd love to see the costing break-down

The animal rights activists are saying they have never seen anything like this... A fun fact, the yearly quota of kangaroos to be culled in QLD is upward of 3.8 million with the number rising with every review. 500 sedated and euthanaised kangaroos is apparently much worse then 3.8million shot.

    • Curious to see how the SpeedTek stuff holds up
    • The holdups last year were drivetrain related. I had the car out right after getting the bearing issue resolved. Third launch and the car didn't move after releasing the clutch. It had sheared all the engagement teeth off the 1st gear.    Thankfully no other damage was done. I set an aftermarket gear beside an OEM gear and found that the engagement teeth on the OEM gear were much larger and better supported. Looking through my bin of spare transmission gears I found that there are two types of tooth on the OEM first gears - the larger tooth and the smaller tooth. It looks like most aftermarket gearset manufacturers base their design on the smaller tooth. OEM large tooth left - Speedtek, OS Giken, etc or OEM small tooth right Decided to give that larger engagement tooth a try. Pressed the ring off an OEM gear and sent it to a transmission manufacturer here in the States. They did their "faceplating" operation with my synchro ring on the Speedtek gear.   I reassembled it, took it back to the track and promptly destroyed the gear itself.  I'll rebuild this and use it as a spare - thankfully just first gear and the countershaft are damaged beyond repair. Definitely disheartening but my welded on engagement tooth ring held up!  Moved to Speedtek's dog engagement design as the gears appear to be much stronger. So far they have taken much more abuse at the track. Also scored a Stillway lockout from the Netherands for super cheap. It's for some other RB transmission so it took a bit of fabrication to fit but honestly a very easy job. I also had to heavily modify the gates as they were very different.   Then for some reason at the last test and tune a silicon coupler below the throttle blew off and took out the radiator and fan. Thankfully it was in the burnout box and not down track. This car is really beating me up - I still haven't made a pass in it. Ran it through the gears many times on the street but it keeps biting me at the track.  Currently in the process of replacing the radiator and remaking the throttle pipe to remove the coupler and use a cast 90 and a vband. I WILL get this thing down the track...
    • Covers most of the above points really. There's a few exceptions but most just see driving as an irritating but necessary task they must complete if they want to get anywhere on time. Also see it as a good time to show their awesome multi-tasking abilities on their mobile and/or doing their makeup.
    • I don't believe I posted pictures of the second oil pump pickup I added so here they are. Data shows it gets oil pressure up to the relief pressure much earlier in the RPM. Is that important? Not likely... This was just another attempt to fix the bearing issues.   I also heavily opened up the inlet to the pump since it now had to flow oil from two pickups. I believe the diameter increased about 1/8".
    • Yes, ther are plenty of [racist statement alert] terrifying 50+ yr old ladies of a certain ethnic origin who have no demerits yet still manage to park their cars on top of roundabouts, hanging out of multistory car parking structures and other wild shenanigans. Somehow they puddle through years of driving without ever attracting the attention of the cops, yet the whole time, they are an instant away from doing something spectactularly stupid.
