Hi People,

I'm stumbled across a very nice v35, thus i got an inspection done by stateroads. Inspection was the comprehensive 5000 point check. Engine, interior etc etc, bascially everything came back perfect. Execpt one thing...

.. there is a dent with rust on the underbody of the car and the rails just around it have been repaired and it is a top notch repair(but this dent hasn't). The inspector said that basically in japan he has run over something, or something has been flown under the car and hi speed and thus the damage. The sellor has said they will get a body shop to straighten it and rust proof it.

The car is a 2003 model, 23,000kms, premium pack with bose, leather and suede, fog lights, xennons etc.

On the report it says: Car is very good condition. Damage to crossmember

What do people think? Should i go for it?

Depends on how cheap the car is: will you find another easily at a similar price point? If so, I'd go for something that was 100% straight, clean, and tidy.

If it's exceptionally cheap, I would use the damage to lower the price further, and have someone I trusted repair the damage, as the owner will take the cheapest possible option if you leave it to them, for obvious reasons.

That's my 2 cents...

If the car is still in Japan it'll probably best not to as you might have problems with compliancing it with the dent in the chassis rail (structural) and rust.

If the car in Australia and it is very cheap, then it'll be up to you - these cars are not exceptionally rare so there will always be a better one offered for sale...

The crossmember is the main support component holding the engine up. Rust makes metal brittle.

Think about the strain on the crossmember during bumps and hard cornering.

Just a thought.

Are you importing this vehicle ? if so i would not touch it, due to compliance regulation etc.... if it is local check nothing else surrounding the area is not damaged.

Found another one, perfect condition and very similar specs, 23,000kms, premium pack, aftermarket sat nav (still japanese though), aftermarket exhaust, fog lights, xennons, leather and suede and the colour i want!
