the previous owner pretty much neglected the cleaning side of things, he forked out decent money for the rims, but never cleaned them, now it has many rust spots around them, specially on the deep dish on the rear, i purchased some mothers chrome polish, it made the chrome come up shiney, but didnt remove the small spots.

any ideas?

Brasso?? I had polished SSRs with the same problem on my sprinter. Got on the brasso or similar (it was a mild cutting compount of some description, name escapes me at the mo) and that got rid of 99% of the rust, then polished the rims up and it came up good as gold. Might be something to give a shot.

so what did you use Craig?

first used the brasso to take all the muck off with a rough side of an old sponge, then buffed it to a shine with mothers chrome polish.

theyre all nice and shiney now.

mines have little spots of tarnishing, like little grey patches in the chrome, anyone got ideas for that?

I've made stainless steel on the bike look like chrome with this stuff....recommended by chromers & pro polishers.

Where would it be easiest to find that stuff Pete?

This is were I got it from but there should be other paint supply shops around if you live out north.
