hey all

after having my 25 rebuilt and with the intention of installing hks 256/8.8 mm in let and 264/9mm exhaust cam my engine builder instructed me to install 90 pound spring to help with high boost and valve float when larger turbo will be installed so i thought ok go for it.

the problem that i am having now is that after a while when the motor has not been run on initial start up the hydraulic lifters are noisy. engine has been run in and being driven every day with good quality oil. has any one else experienced this problem b4? are there any other causes that would be making this problem evident?

Lifters weren't bled when put in by the sounds of it.... assuming there is no oil supply problem to the head???

Mine were noisy as a mofo for the first week on cold starts.... now I only have a slight noise(one stubborn lifter) which is slowly disappearing... been around a month since mine turned key on the new engine..

U can run a thin oil and take it for a nice long hardish drive and get some oil up into them.... ie high revs... low gear ... under speed limit of course for an hour or so :)

oooooooor take it to a track day and give it a good work out :)

were your lifter replaced when you put the cams in? if not, how many hms do they have on them?

im assuming your engine builder checked the clearences and just didnt slap them in the head

wasnt aware you can "adjust" the clearance of a hydraulic lifter.............

they are very hard to bleed, and most peeps dont really want to pay for new lifters.

as above what anna said :)

the lifters where soaked in oil the hole time the engine was apart for roughly 3 months .

the engine has been running for about 4 months now and still the same.

yes the price of new lifters is way to much atm .

the engine originally done some very high k's

  • 3 years later...

well Im assuming they would of been cleaned, but Im concerned the 90lb springs arnt helping with allowing the hydraulic lifters to function, not oiling up as soon as they could....

90lb is a heavy valve spring yeah???

Im not sure of the brand, 90lb is alot, performance springs dont even know where they would find a 90lb spring to fit....

65lb was recommended... 90lb will cause lifter issues apparantly...

Yes they do say couple mins at warm up stage then all goes quite.

Its just the noise that is annoying.

Confirmed with machinist about spring tension and they are NOT 90 Pounds .My bad for the incorrect info.

They are 65 pound springs as he has installed them in other 25 heads with no problems, it must just be the lifter's worn out and not sealing the

oil in the lifter.

New Lifters a must.

Other then the lifter problem, all is sweet.
