Sign the petition.

The story is there if you're not already aware of the incident that happened with his drag car in the states where people were unfortunately killed.

Cheers.

Where is the full story?

That link does not have details about what happened. All it says is that this guy is in trouble and needs help, it would be good if people actually knew what they were signing the petition for.

Haven't got a link to the full story, but bascially Troy was doing a demo in his drag car (at a disadvantaged children's day of all things), lost control of the car and went into the crowd killing a number of people. Must be a terrible thing to happen to a driver, as well as the families involved of course

An Australian driver is in shock, feeling ``numb'', after his drag racer slammed into a crowd in the United States, killing six people.

Queenslander Troy Critchley, 36, was driving in a charity event in Selmer, Tennessee, on Saturday, when his drag racing car skidded off the road and into hundreds of spectators, who were not protected by guard rails.

Two girls aged 15 and one aged 17 were among the six killed as Critchley performed an ``exhibition burnout'' - when a drag racer spins his tyres to make them heat up and smoke - at a Cars for Kids charity event.

Up to 18 more were injured in the collision, which sent bodies ``flying into the air'', said Selmer Police Chief Neal Burks.

Amateur video of the crash showed the car's engine revving loudly before the vehicle sped down a highway in a cloud of smoke. After a few hundred metres the car skidded off the road.

to me i like that he was helping charity. but surely he could have done it in a safer way?

im not sure how drag cars go with line lockies? (might not give enough air flow to cool the mental engine)

but he was dead set rocketing on that road. that speed in a car that has trouble keeping straight on a specialised purpose build drag strip can obviously be very dangerous on a standard street.

i think its a silly idea from the start. sadly innocent people were killed.

not signed

Yeah but Grant you're missing the point. All of those safety precautions are absolutely the organisers responsibility. Yeah he could have said no if he'd thought it unsafe, but the organisers are 100% at fault imo because they failed to even put up a proper barrier. If i'm not mistaken, there was no such barrier or even fence... People were basically just standing on the side of the road.

Signed, because of the organisers receiving minimal blame and consequences.

Yeh i understand everyone points the finger. But come on, probably a 3000hp drag car on a suburban street, surely if he can pilot it to 6 second 1/4s he can work out for himself the situation (approved by organisers or not) is stupid?

or am i giving him too much credit?

I agree with Grant on this one. Its pretty stupid layin burnouts in a car like that in an uncontrolled environment. I do feel sorry for the bloke. But while every one is sayin poor guy im thinkin poor familys that have to deal with a loss because of someone elses stupid decisions.

Definitely poor families living with the loss but that's not the issue.

It's punish the driver or punish the organisers and its a no brainer that the organisers have the duty of care to provide the safe environment, not the driver therefore he should not be the one that is punished for it.

it is not 100% organisers fault, he has a massive part in taking the blame, he was driving the f*cking car, do you honestly believe he didnt know the risks? obviously it was unexpected but things like that DO happen.

however, i do not see him as a bad person, he does not deserve to go up for murder and i wish him all the best

f**k you guys are harsh.

when competing I have been in situations where people/spectators may have been injured many times.

people standing on pit wall at a track if a crash happens on the straight.

targa/rallly stages where you are goin 100% but there is no guarantee there are no spectators around the next corner.

dutton rally where there was a main street based special stage in the middle of a very large crowd

not to mention other situations that happen all the time like speedway cars going over the spectator fences

In fact in a race I was in a couple of years ago, a fellow driver had a heart attack and died. What if he had been driving towards a barrier with spectators behind at the time? Same with Todd Wilks at Eastern Creek, Paul Flintoff at Mt Buller - these guys could have taken spectators with them. In Paul's case, how do you think David Reynolds feels? same with Marko Martin and Michael Park? What about Graham Beveridge at the Aus Gp, hit by a wheel and killed.

Troy was a very experienced racer, and sometimes with cars shit happens. He has to live with this anyway (and that is the biggest thing there), why should he have this sort of legal battle hanging over his head. Safety has come an enourmous way since the days of f1 driverss dying every weekend and taking 50 people with them at Monza, but accidents do still happen.

I agree 100% with duncan. sure troy was driving the car but the organisers could have organised it beter like not letin any1 past a certan spot where troy would b driving. ive been put in many situations where ive almost been injured at race tracks just working with teams. Stand in pit lane when a supercar comes in with no brakes and heads straight 4 u being hit by a carera cup car in the pit padock when they came around a corner 2 quick when we were pushing the supercar into the tent. then complain 2 the people that race profesionaly or work with race teams.
