Hi Andru,

I was just wondering if you or anyone else were able to help me out with couple of questions regarding MFD installation into my R34 Gt-t. I had the MFD for about 6 months now and only connected the power because I was too lazy to do anything else. But when I bought it, it also came with all the wiring harnesses too. But only thing is my car didn't come with the 3 centre gauges option but instead with the inbuilt gps system. Would I need to buy seperate boost and oil temp sensors? If so how and where would I connect them to and also where I could purchase it from?

any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

regards,

Garland

hey garland

i met up with andru a while back to help me with my MFD install so i know a bit about this stuff now.

to answer your qeustions you do not need any seperate sensors....all the sensors run off your ECU. if your running a Power FC its very easy to just check number pins and connect them to the back of the MFD.

in my case it was as simple as finding a MFD, and a cover and buying a few wires....and connecting it up. i cant say how easy that will be since you had the pop up display. im not sure if the cover is a direct fit.

let me know how you go

Just got one for my car, looks tops! However the Exhaust sensor and Inlet temps dont come up, any chance anyone knows how to get this working? I.E in the 6 item table that comes up they dont come up too only the first 4 or something.

Ok thats great, thank you David for getting back to me. Ray wouldnt be on the forums would he?

Yeah Ray from RE Customs is a SAU Member on here.

Or you can speak to barney (Brad) who also works for RE Customs- http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/barney-m31951.html

I can't remember what Rays name on SAU is...

you have to run the diagnostic tool while the car is on, drive around for a bit and when it gets a reading for the exhaust it displays it on the mfd.

does that will all sensors

But with the wiring diagram ive got no chance it will pick up the sensor cause I dont have one lol. + I did not wire anything up for a exhaust temp nor did I bother with amb temp.

thanks for that..

but at the top diagrams there is a seperate box for the triple combination metre which runs the boost and oil temp which i dont think mine has because my car didnt come with that option but instead with the standard sat nav and pop up screen. is there a way of sourcing out that part at all?

appreciate your help !

you can pick up every sensor in the gtt except Front Toqrue, Exhaust and inlet Temp.

for exhaust and inlet temp, youll have to call nissan and source a sensor. check here for the prices and part numbers

as for front toqrue, no chance cuz you have a rwd =[

you can still do it....it just means you cant use the factory sensor line like me and andru had. which makes things tricky.

you can find out what every pin means by looking at this

MFD_to_GTT11.jpg

mfdplugscb1.jpg

as you can see PIN 33 is the "boost sensor.

all you need is a wire connecting that pin on the MFD to the right pin in your ecu. now me and andru jsut connected it to the triple gauge sensor which we all know is boost.

your problem is you dont have that, so somehow youll need to find which pin is the Boost pin in your ecu. only way to do that is to get a volt metre and test each indivisual pin to until you get the exact reading as your boost sensor.

Hey Garland, give Ray at R.E. Customs in Victoria a call, his guys installed my MFD and helped Andru with his, so im sure they will be able to help you out.

cheers,

David

hopefully ray can help cuz from what i remember, andru was the one who wired everything up, he only used RE Customs tools to do the job but did ask ray to soldier the wires to the ECU.

he did most of my car aswell.

a shame his not on the forums anymore, although he talked alot of shit he contributed to r34 owners alot. there are a few members on here who have done this so they would be your only hope from this point on.

;)

Ok so first of all the two points on the ecu namley pinout 47 and 60 that you would be refering to are actually different and would not work for the mfd or any gages for that matter (Sort of the same as reason the oil pressure and the water temp has to come from the main cluster, becase the ecu points are different.)

You would need to take it directly to the sensors. (pic attached)

Anyone wanting to fit one of these is quite welcome to ask me any questions as i have done this about 2 years ago. (with the help of Purpleline HKS forums) I also helped Andru when he first wanted to do this so im sure i can help anyone else out who wants it..

This is the site with the original diy that everyone copies. Good pics. My mates here helped me when i did this so more then happy to help you out any time.

Few important notes for anyone undertaking this job:

Make sure the main power feed has a fuse,

Always disconnect the battery fully before touching the ECU,

Try not to use those cheap crimp fittings if you can help it but if ur soldering is not to good probley is a better way to go then trying to solder in a tight place,

Make sure you run the wires for the exhaust and intake from behind the dash and just lay under carpet on passenger side until you want to do it( these are both positive feeds so you should tape the ends off)

Good Luck hey.. :)

hi guys. i've done a bit of research on installing the MFD into my R34 gtt but i still have one problem... where can i buy one? i'd prefer the non nismo one (due to price) but i can't seem to source one very easily. any sudjestions?

thanx in advance :ninja:

Yahoo Auctions is your best bet.. and no they are not cheap, but cheaper then a new one from Nissan (around $4000) They also pop up here sometimes just got to keep your eyes out for them.. Garland (GMAN) had one fo a steal ($1000) a couple weeks ago and it just sat there for weeks.. Gone now of course...

Good luck.. :P

Okay I am undergoing a bit of a makeover with my GTT, GTR nismo front bumper, GTR sideskirts, GTR rear bumper, GTR Nismo side and rear spats, GTR rear spoiler, GTR tailight covers, GTR rear fenders, GTR sills, full GTR interior, MFD and floor mats. All missing right now is the front wings and bonnet. Question on the MFD now, I got the MFD from a damaged GTR and want to power it up manually to make sure the screen is functioning. Will it be a simple process of just grounding and powering pins 1 and 2 on the and the ignition pins to get the display to show? Let me know as soon as so I can check it.

All you need to do is Positive feed to pins 1, 2, 3, 12 and a Negetive feed to 13 and 14.

Make sure you put a fuse on the positive feed incase you short it out..

Also as i posted above your best bet is to follow the original DIY by Purpleline from Hong Kong Skyline Club, as it worked for me over two years ago with his help.

But if you do need some help just PM me and i will give you a hand or answer any questions.
