Hi guys...

My brothers just bought a 260z which has been fitted with a RB20det motor which was not running.. The turbo was the obvious problem so that was the first thing to replace..

After we took the turbo off we realised it wasn't an RB series turbo as it was only oil cooled.. Took it to tilbrooks where he told us its off a DR30 (fj20).

I've had a bit of a look through the internet trying to find out some specs on the turbo and wether or not it would be a good match for this motor . I can't find anything ..

I'd like to know wether it would better to put an RB series turbo on it (vg30 or R32 ball bearing) or just put another FJ turbo back on it?

Is the FJ turbo ceramic? how much power can you get out of them in standard form with some boost..

Any opinions on what we should do would be greatly appreciated! as the zed needs to get back on the road soon as possible.

I know the FJ that was intercooled had a water cooled turbo and these were smaller than the early turbo fj motors. The smaller version made 160rwkw on 14psi, so if it is the bigger verison that i would assume it should make more and could run lots of boost, no ceramics. So get it rebulit, $300 or so, and run it, it will be a little more laggy but not too bad.

cheers fellaz!

hay clint so you think the FJ turbo isn't such a bad choice? i've got one lined up but i'm not sure which motor its off of... how do i tell if its the intercooled or non intercooled turbo.

If the turbo can do the same job or better than the RB turbo it would be much easier choice to get the FJ.. (straight bolt up)..

You say "$300 or so"... do you mean thats how much it is to rebuild these creatures or to buy a good second hand one..
